    Hand catching vs. Landing

Disabling Landing Protection doesn't disable any sensors, but it turns off the Mavic's default behavior of keeping a minimum 1.5ft ground clearance. ie. The Mavic won't try to rise away from your hand. If you really wanted to turn off downward sensors, you turn off the positioning system (VPS).

    Hand catching vs. Landing

Sport Mode doesn't disable the bottom sensors. I just leave Landing Protection disabled permanently. It's the easiest solution. (Though it's also very easy to catch with all sensors enabled, once you know where to grab to avoid the sensors)

Couldn't shut down motors in RTH mode with hand grab

I believe that's a misprint in the manual. In other parts of the manual regarding Sport Mode, the downward sensors aren't mentioned. I also tested this myself a few weeks back, bringing my Mavic down with full down stick in Sport Mode. The Landing Protection kicked in as normal, slowing the...

Couldn't shut down motors in RTH mode with hand grab

But Sport Mode only disables the forward sensors, it doesn't disable the VPS or Landing Protection. If you want to prevent the Mavic from trying to fly up, you just need to disable Landing Protection. And I prefer to leave VPS on so that the Mavic hovers in place better. @collins

Couldn't shut down motors in RTH mode with hand grab

For what reason do you recommend switching to Sport mode before hand catching?

So, what you're saying is... "It's NOT the transmitter, dummy?"

Mavic dropped mid air -> destroyed

@smh , I've added your incident to my list of similar ones. It seemed like these power loss issues had pretty much gone away, but it looks like there is still an issue. Your Mavic was built a little more recently than the others on my list, which is a little worrying. Would you mind also trying...

Mavic does RTH without GPS signal!!!

Unfortunately, the Mavic seems to sometimes trust its systems more than it should. eg. When GPS signal is marginal, or there's compass interference, sometimes it would really be best to be in ATTI Mode, but the Mavic will hold onto GPS mode for a while. During times like this, the Mavic's flight...

Mavic does RTH without GPS signal!!!

Just to be safe, when you're flying into or out of the indoor space, you should probably set your Mavic to Land or Hover in case of Signal Loss, instead of RTH.

Return to home won't turn off.

I've read several cases like this that turned out to be a jammed or defective button.

VPS over water - sorry for beating a dead horse

I'll definitely be interested to see your video. I've tested it before myself. Started with the Mavic at 0.5m above the ground (the minimum it allows with Landing Protection on), and then flying it slowly over a raised concrete slab. When the Mavic detected the raised slab, it rose up until it...

VPS over water - sorry for beating a dead horse

When flying forwards, the downward sensors can have a hard time properly sensing the rising ground in front, especially since the downward sensors are pointed rearward as the Mavic is pitched forward. This can mean that the Mavic isn't able to adjust its height in time. But try flying the Mavic...

    Indoors Crash......

For indoor flight, you'd really want to make sure the floor is well lit and non-uniform so that the VPS can work effectively. When it works, it's usually able to keep the Mavic incredibly stable. If you were getting drifting, it sounds like the conditions were sub-optimal for the VPS system...

    Indoor Pilots...Question...

The limits are 5m in OPTI mode, and 30m in ATTI mode.

VPS over water - sorry for beating a dead horse

Dragonfly was somewhat right about this, but he just got the height wrong. It's actually about 1.5ft (0.5m). If the VPS and Landing Protection are both enabled, the Mavic will try to stay above this height in normal flight mode.
