Yeah, the circuit lets through some curren, so the phone sees the connection, but it's way less than full on charging. To put it in numbers, the Mavic controller will charge at 500-800mA but this thing only lets through 1-30mA depending on the phone you use. So it's a significant difference

It's kind ridiculous that DJI says to add a WiFi module, as that drains a lot of power too, instead of providing a solution. So here is a solution

A fully fledged controller is essential IMO with all the app issues and crashes especially on Android. Also the shutter dial and the customizable buttons I couldn't live without

I'd be worried flying WiFi in populated areas. The noise coming from every building having some kind of WiFi can be a problem and result in signal degradation, and in the worst case scenario flyaways. Also the WiFi lag means that you cant be as precise in control and video
