My short answer as others have already said is Bad idea, don't do it. I would not do it with mine. However, I used to fly racing quads (drone). I myself would be crazy enough to try that with a GoPro or Mobius camera strapped to it. The are a lot smaller and easier to get in and out of smaller...
Yes it knows both altitudes. Open your GO 4 app without being connected to the AC. Bottom right corner select "Me" where all your flights are stored. Check the "Top Altitude" Mine says 7,825ft. My house is at 7,400ft' ish so you do the math. These new drones are smarter than you think.
You should get a job there. The employee discounts on some of the stuff in big. Props, Polar Pro filters are half price. Batteries for the Mavic were $50.
Another trick I have noticed with my mavic is when you press the RTH button it comes home at approximately 20-22 mph. If you push the right stick forward it will return at approximately 30-31mph. You can also control the height/elevation with the left stick. Just more food for thought.
I also use the same landing pad. I think i happened a couple of time to me but I also noted that the pad was moving alot with the prop wash and it was a windy day. I believe it just senses the pad moving or even just the tie down loop flapping. I just force land it myself on the pad.
Happy Flyin'
