2 Pro Infrared converted M2P - New Orleans Video Edit

Thank so much for watching. I'll likely refine this edit with a more desired color swapping and grading once I figure out how to manage .dcp and .cube profiles in DaVinci Resolve or a custom workflow. I decided to include some of the in-camera pink clips so folks can see what it looks like...

2 Pro Infrared converted M2P - New Orleans Video Edit

I recently had my older Mavic 2 Pro cameraconverted to a full spectrum infrared by Kolari Vision. This is an edit of my first collection of video clips from a recent visit to New Orleans. My attempt to learn all about infrared… filters, color profiles, channel swap and how to make it all work in...

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

For those interested in experimenting with infrared photography and video, it turns out that buying or converting a Mavic is one of the cheapest way to do so. Converting a M2P is $325 and includes 2 sets of 6 filters each including the Hot Mirror filter for normal look. The 2nd set are 5 stop ND...

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

Thanks for those. I was gonna contact them about purchasing their IR Chrome filter. I like the look. I only saw it as an add-on to a filter set. Yes, they do have guides for DIY, but decided I’d rather have them do it properly while I spend my time flying, filming and editing!

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

I may have noticed a barely perceptible hotspot in some images. I did a lot of brush dodging in LR as the light wasn’t as bright as preferred at the time of day I was shooting. I was a bit indecisive on the filters as I’ve not had much time to fully test all of them. As you can see from this...

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

I assumed that no company even did such a thing. My camera conversion I did through LifePixel before I found the KolariVision website. I was impatient! While waiting to receive my Canon 5D mkII, but immediately after I took my first flight with the converted M2P, I bought a used converted...

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

One of the reasons I did the drone conversion was I saw almost NO ONE on YouTube doing artistic aerial IR. Yes, I’ve read about focus issues which is much less of an issue with Mirrorless or DSLRs with Live View. Interesting observation about the M3C. I was thinking about doing the same on...

2 Pro Infrared Converted Mavic 2 Pro - First images

Over the years, I've been fascinated by the look of infrared photography. A video appeared in my YouTube feed recently and I started researching. A few hours later, I'd packed up an older Canon 5D mkII to get it converted to a full spectrum infrared camera. A day later, wondering whether anyone...

3 Castle Valley Road near Moab, Utah- not in the national park

Were you shooting DNG? Perhaps the banding resulted from the jpg or png export. I haven’t noticed any banding when I shoot photos.

    3 Moab, Utah - Hurrah Pass & Chicken Corners - BLM Off-Roading

Definitely make a point to go back. For no good reason, it took me 25 years despite the huge impression it had on me at the time.

3 [FPV] Mountain Surfing at a Swiss Mountain Pass

Well, take my opinion with a grain of salt. FPV is a bit different and I generally don’t like to crop a sensor when you can easily crop in post. I love the look of FPV. Gotta add one to the fleet.

    3 Moab, Utah - Hurrah Pass & Chicken Corners - BLM Off-Roading

Moab is the gateway to the big 5 National Parks of the Southwest; Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce and Capital Reef. But, there are also state parks, BLM land, etc. Moab and Southern Utah in general has something for everyone. Climbing, hiking, mountain & road biking, rafting & speed boating...

    3 Moab, Utah - Hurrah Pass & Chicken Corners - BLM Off-Roading

There are a whole variety of vehicles on those trails. Depends on how much dirt you want in your teeth and nostrils. I rented a modded Jeep Rubicon and rode my 60yo a$$ in comfort. Of course, there are some extremely challenging trails around Moab if that’s what you’re into, but my interest is...

3 [FPV] Mountain Surfing at a Swiss Mountain Pass

I see. When you capture in 8:7 aspect ratio, you feel like you’re cutting off important parts of image. If you captured in 16x9, you wouldn’t think about what you cropped out. IMHO, what you’ll notice is that, from a composition perspective, there’s a lot of sky and the bottom of the frame is...

    3 Moab, Utah - Hurrah Pass & Chicken Corners - BLM Off-Roading

The early explorers obviously had many challenges navigating the Southwest, which likely tempered their perspective of the vast awe-inspiring landscapes of the area, especially the Colorado River Basin. Here's a link to my photos (nearly every photo in Moab is a pano). - Moab, Utah - Oct. 2023...
