FAA permission to fly near airport?

People on other posts have indicated that if you fly recreationally, record images, and subsequently donate them to a youtbue channel the FAA does not regard this as commercial. It's hard for me to believe that if you also fly recreationally, record images, and subsequently donate them to...

Unsafe Mavic 2 Parallel Charging Hub

I got the one from Fstop Labs for the Mavic 2, ordered on Oct 7th. Recently used it to charge 3 batteries at the same time. It does get very hot, but did not shut off. The fan was running, but I felt like it needed more. It was in an air-conditioned room. Not sure how it would have fared...

    A Word From the FAA

We don't need any language that states "developed areas". Way too much interpretation to that. I'm trying to think of any precedent in aviation. The yellow areas on sectional charts may be generally considered populated areas. Consider this: The yellow areas are more of a representation of...

Anyone on here have inside info on LAANC airport roll-out info?

I just tried calling the airport. No answer. Well, that's Guam for ya.

Anyone on here have inside info on LAANC airport roll-out info?

End of 2019 eh? Not too bad. I guess I should just be grateful this system exists.

Anyone on here have inside info on LAANC airport roll-out info?

I'm trying to figure out when US territories will be fully integrated and operational. I want to use LAANC in Guam. Using AirMap I can see all the grids, rules, etc concerning LAANC. When I submit a recreational notification it tells me I may be violating the rule about notifying the airport...

    5 Miles From Airport

Once thing we will have to pay attention to is class E and G airports. I am still not 100% on what we have to do. And with the new FAA Authorization Bill that very well may change. As I read it before, if you are within 5 miles of any airport, you must notify. Well, 5 miles within an...

    Part 107 required?

I thought if you flew recreational and then a youtube channel used that recreational footage and published it, you may be required to be 107. I don't know if it matters if it is your youtube channel or not. This doesn't make sense to me, but some people interpret otherwise. Understand that...

    5 Miles From Airport

Ya, ignore the comparing brain pan exchange between me and the other guy lol. It's all interpretation if it's not in writing. And it had nothing to do with drones. The thing is, I believe, the FAA always meant to have protection of actual designated airspace. I think they just said "5 miles"...

    5 Miles From Airport

Table 4-1-1. It is referenced in section 4-1-9 in the FAA's online version of the AIM. It's one place where "10 miles" is referenced. I don't have any of my old paper manuals here with me. Interesting about FSS's recently. I haven't flown GA in a while. It is kind of nit-picky. I'll give...

    5 Miles From Airport

Of course it's in the AIM and has been for at least 25 years. Never claimed it was controlled airspace. Not sure if they use the term "area" currently or not. I can't comment on the history of what makes sense in the aviation industry. If you wish to call a FSS over radio you should be...

    National Park Clarification

Yes I understand their sentiment. I also think in some cases it is ridiculous. A park near me is part of the NPS. It's just a wide open field adjacent the ocean. But the park boundaries extend into the water. People go there to run, bike, fly kites, BBQ, etc. And there are many times when...

    5 Miles From Airport

That is typically true. When I first went through flight training class D airspace was 4.4 NM, which is 5 SM. I have seen UAS training material referring to statute miles. I assumed that is where they got it and they just stuck with SM because that is what the general public is used to...

    5 Miles From Airport

One thing I'm not sure if some apps are getting right is the distance. Skyward's website says it used 5 nautical miles, not statute miles. So if an app is using the wrong scale, it would be wrong.
