Thoughts on Mavic Mini, if you own a Mavic Air.

Hi, I have the Mavic Pro, Mavic Air, Spark and now the Mini. The Mini is far from perfect but for myself who travels constantly through my job - its pretty good. I work offshore and don't need a long range drone, one patch of sea is pretty much the same as the next. Yes, wind can be an issue...

Possible to hook up an external camera?

I switched off the vision sensors and strapped a Galaxy S7 with the Flir One camera to the bottom for a quick test. Worked okay. There wasn't too much wind the day I tried. I think a Raspberry Pi with attached Flir may be a better idea, though I haven't got round to trying it yet.

    Launch from a moving ship?

Hi, I work on oil exploration vessels. I've taken off from a metal deck (on a stationary ship) with compass errors but preferred to hand launch the Mavic by holding a couple of meters off the deck to avoid any errors. I have only risked a Spark offshore at speed. Taking off and hand catching is...

    Mounting Crystalsky in Mavic RC

    Mounting Crystalsky in Mavic RC

I have that mount also but it won't work due to the battery on the crystalsky. I just use velcro stuck on the back of the monitor and on the fold out arms. Works a treat.

How to force OPTI mode for boat use?

One of my colleagues tried taking off, with a Mavic in GPS mode, from the deck of my ship and basically slammed the drone into a metal bulkhead at speed as the drone was trying to hover in place with the boat moving under it. He was too slow to start moving forward. Four broken propellers as a...

How to force OPTI mode for boat use?

I work on a ship and had the same idea as yourself in blocking GPS to allow easy takeoff and landing. With the most recent firmware the Mavic automatically assumes that I'm in a NFZ. I downgraded to .400 and it'll work but the whole ATTI thing on a moving large ship with various winds coming...

    Block GPS

Did you have any luck with the shielding? I'm looking for a similar solution to use ATTI offshore and land on moving ships. Tips would be appreciated. Cheers

    Magnetic interference

I too work on a ship. I've never calibrated onboard only on dry land. I've only taken off while the boat has been alongside in Port. Waiting on ATTI mode either with shielding or selectable to fly while at sea. One of my colleagues tried taking off while the boat was doing 10knots, luckily it...

    First Launch From A Boat

I work on a survey ship offshore. Only recently got my Mavic so first time I've taken it offshore. I calibrated the compass before leaving Port and have had no real issues flying inside the ship in several large open spaces we have. The App complains of Magnetic Interference and Check App...

Taking the Mavic on holiday flight

Traveled a few weeks ago from Glasgow to Amsterdam then Bergen. No issues at all though at Glasgow they did open my case (the mini MC hard case) to do a swab test. Nobody bothered about my Lithium batteries, though I had drained them all to around 60%.

A basic figure of eight a few times then flying nose in showing your aware that the controls will be reversed. I guess just proving that you can keep the drone stable and not batter it off people and places. That was the last part with the theory the previous day. You then get help putting an...

    Mavic Scotland

Haven't had any incidents like that. Only occasionally running a compass cal, though I haven't travelled far. Haven't done an IMU cal yet. I wouldn't be too scared flying. The Mavic looks able to take a lot of abuse from some of the vids I've seen. NATS course is at Prestwick Airport. Been very...

    Mavic Scotland

Dunure is pretty good. It was a bit windy the last time I went down there. Greenan Castle is pretty good for some nice sunrise/sunset shots. Hopefully this weekend will be okay. What went wrong? Richie Sent from my iPad using MavicPilots
