Start your mavic without taking off, move the left stick left and right and see what happens. I was surprised too.

I have the exact same problem, but with the iphone cable. DJI support simply told me to buy a new one. Didn't do it yet.

you might be interested in the DJI spark (mavic mini) that is rumored come out soon. price will probably be half of the mavic

Hope you got it by now. It's crazy how such a good product has such crappy customer service. The iphone cable shipped with my mavic is intermittently working, and they said I just need to buy a new one because it's not covered under warranty.
