    Minimum altitudes for manned craft

Are there no manned pilots on these forums? Lowest legal height (AGL) for manned aircraft as long as certain requirements are met is 0' AGL! For example, over open water with no infrastructure (i.e. boats, docks, oil platforms. etc.) and no people you can take it down as low as like. Obviously...

Help Restricted Air Space can't fly

That is what I thought. It is sooo much easier flying a manned aircraft as each sequence of contacts passes your information and intentions on to the next contact. Just messing around. :) I have a Single Engine Land pilot's license and I take UAS and manned flights seriously.

Help Restricted Air Space can't fly

Thank you! Yeah, it's really confusing. To me it seems as though Visualize It which is a FAA website could be used for both hobby and part 107 clearance to fly. Otherwise why have it (just a rhetorical question, not looking for an explanation)? That said, requesting a letter from McChord is...

Help Restricted Air Space can't fly

Thanks for the clarification. I don't want to be spreading false information and I apologize if have. I certainly respect the previous post. I really was just trying to help. That said, I am not trying to start a debate on this but this is the based on a conversation I had with the supervising...

Help Restricted Air Space can't fly

There is a web page from the FAA that has that shows Special Security Instructions (FAA SSI). It has grids that will tell the height restrictions. If you are flying in a "grid" that has a height greater than zero then you can fly in Class D airspace (not sure about other airspaces) in the area...

Landing / recovering UAV at speed on a ship

I don't know the model of drone you are flying but here are some landing skids for the M2x that should make hand catching a lot easier and safer. Just grab one of the skids. Arris Raptor2 Skid for the DJI Mavic 2 (Pre-Order FOR 04/15/19) shipment | irepairmd

Mavic 2 flying in the middle of nowhere

Occusync 2.0! And no Davey Jones for me. I'll trade flight time for "waterwings". Just hope my M2P doesn't end up adding to all the floating plastic in the Ocean! I totally agree with you.

Mavic 2 flying in the middle of nowhere

Jennifer and I cried too. I am lucky to have a wife who gets all this and supports me! The idea was to capture the moon's shadow speeding across the ocean surface with the ship in the foreground to give it some perspective and the Sun near the horizon. Where we will be the sun will only be at...

Mavic 2 flying in the middle of nowhere

I think your picture is upside down! The solar flare was in the lower right corner when I saw it, not the upper right. :) We will also be at the 2024 eclipse. Will be renting an RV (did that last time) so we can pick up and move easily depending on the weather. Back to business. Based on what...

Mavic 2 flying in the middle of nowhere

We saw the 2016 eclipse in Wyoming near Riverton overlooking a plain with mountains off in the westerly direction . It was truly life altering. I totally agree with you about not paying attention to the drone. At least the ship will not be under sail and will attempt to do station keeping. I...

Mavic 2 flying in the middle of nowhere

This summer my wife and I are travelling to Tahiti to get on a sailing cruise ship that has been booked to intersect a solar eclipse in the middle of the Pacific ocean. Here's what the ship looks like: Question: We will be out of all cell connectivity, the exact location we are going to is...

    Night Flying

It's confusing about Night Flying. I've seen YouTube videos that night flying is not restricted for hobbyists (no waiver needed) but part 107 is (need waiver). Of course you must maintain VLOS but not difficult to do with the Cree strobes. Is this correct, I mean about the restrictions?
