Update...called DJI, they didn’t attempt to troubleshoot, instead having me return for repair. Hadn’t even flown the drone once. So, might it be a common problem, possibly hardware?

You're absolutely correct about testing the mode before biking! It indicates the MA will fly away max 19.7' and min 6.6'; you have to stay within 23' to maintain hand recognition. Manual also recommends using prop guards in this mode. It also mentions "Face Aware" so it might need to see...
