    Same restrictions for <250 g

Thanks for answering my original question 😀 Did learn a lot more about possibly needing a 107 license as well!

    Same restrictions for <250 g

My question was really about the geo-fencing part (or whatever else is the cause of the DJI Go4 app not letting me takeoff). I assume the same thing happens with smaller drones but was not sure.

    Same restrictions for <250 g

I currently fly an old MPP with add on RID module, but sometimes I am not allowed to take off due to the drone location. Do those same restrictions apply to drones under the 250 g threshold, such as a Mavic Mini? For example, if I want to fly up and inspect the top of my sailboat mast which is...

First time flying on open sea from small boat ?

I frequently fly my MPP from moving sailboats. There are several important things to do that are very important. 1. Launch and recover from the back of the boat. Then when the drone goes to hover it safely separates from the boat. 2. get a rigid handle. Mine is a GoPro type mount and I just...

Controller with screen for Mavic Pro Platinum

I just use my MPP with my phone running the DJI GO 4 app. Have used it with a tablet as well. Found a nice holder that holds the phone above the manual controller which works great for me. Not sure if you were looking to avoid doing that, or if that if using your phone meets your needs.

Landing Mini 2 on a boat

I fly from and return to moving boats all the time. But you have to hand launch and hand catch. You cannot land on something that is moving. After you catch it, turn the drone sideways and the motors will shut off. Much easier and safer if you have a rigid handle on the bottom to catch...

Tight landing space onboard a tall ship

Steve, Hand launching and catching is definitely the way to go. You can not land on a moving platform. The catching handle makes it much easier and safer to do this. Until you get very good at it, I would have one person with the control sticks and a different person launching/catching it...

    Solution: flying from a boat

Don’t launch or recover from the bow (front) of a moving boat. As soon as you launch, the boat is converging on the drone. Always launch from the back. Don’t let go until you feel the drone pulling away. Then the drone and boat immediately separate (which is what you want). When it is...

Newly retired middle aged female living on a sailing catamaran in Turkey learning how to fly my drone

I would suggest sorting out the Chucky issues of the drone from Terra Firma. The boat adds so much complexity and takes away so many options. I use a catching handle unless the boat is on a mooring or in a slip. If the boat is even just drifting slowly, it will make landing on the boat...

    Landing in a boat

I think your skids are a great idea. Keeps your fingers further from the propellers and allows you to still land if you want to do that instead. There is a difference in flying from a moving boat vs a relatively stationary boat. When the boat is moving, you have to fly it to the back of the...

    Landing in a boat

Yeah, those guys are amazing drone pilots. I would never launch my drone in anything like that. But they all use the Phantom drone which has large gear that works as a catching handle.

    Landing in a boat

I launch and recover from a moving sailboat using my MPP (larger than the Mini). I mount a handle on the bottom, similar to the video someone shared). Makes it easy to catch and turn sideways to kill the motors, which would not stop otherwise because the boat is still moving. I would be very...

MPP Gimbal Flipping Around at Startup

Agree that paying someone to fix it is likely money better spent replacing the drone. I found it odd that two replacement gimbals both had the same problem (which was different from the problem I was having with the first gimbal (also a replacement after the crash). Luckily I could return the...

MPP Gimbal Flipping Around at Startup

I am having a startup problem with my MPP Gimbal. When I start the drone, the gimbal does its normal start-up dance but then kicks fully up and down, hitting gimbal travel stops several times and then stopping while pointed in some odd direction (usually down). The DJI Fly app then shows the...

Advice before takeoff & landing from a boat

I have an old MPP that I fly off sailboats that are moving. I have a handle mounted to the bottom that makes it much easier and safer to retrieve. Always take off from the back so the boat moves away as soon as airborne. Much safer to approach from the back of a moving boat, then you can just...
