Not possible with the Pixel 2, the supplied cable is C--C.

It is possible to disconnect the gimbal by posting it to the side and unscrewing the gimbal where it minus to the vibration board. Saves trouble of removing the rubber bands. Before I figured this out I made to little hook tools out of paper clips to manipulate the bands, which was helpful for me.

I did find that thread, it seems like an earlier version of the product. It didn't speak much as to the actual effectiveness of protection in the field. The current version has more holes I'm guessing to help with the heat and claims to not block the bottom sensors.
