    An expensive privacy lesson

A family moved on to our lake about a year ago and then recently sold their house. I assumed it was a sudden job transfer but it appears to be drone related. The husband/father is in to drones and after moving in began posting drone photos and vids of the lake and lakeshore. It sounds like most...

    Police question

Remotely: Can Legally? No Can Technically? Very likely yes. I'd be surprised if the Feds and Military don't both have the capability. They are not going to use or expose that capability unless quite critical though. Physically: Can Legally? No Can Technically? Yes (unless you are larger and...

Battery explosion, house nearly burnt down

First, I'm glad nobody was immediately hurt in this incident and hopefully no longer term harm from fumes. What realistically is the risk of this happening? I just did a quick count and I've well over 100 lithium based battery 'packs' in our house. Included are two Tesla's, three Tesla...

DJI Suspends Business in Russia and Ukraine

You do have to wonder how much info from a DJI drone makes it back to mama. Certainly telemetry info. Video? I would be kind of surprised if DJI is not providing intel to Russia given the close ties between the two countries.

    Airdata UAV cost ?

I'm currently paying $39/yr for the HD360 package and realistically that's just to get the wind data. My number of personal flights is well under 100/yr so I don't need it for flight count. I'd love to have some of the features of the Gold package but not worth the money. In a bid to reign in...

Computer too slow for video editing.

It's difficult to carry 10 gallons of water in an 8oz cup. Sometimes you really do just need more/better hardware. A used Mac Mini or iMac can be a great value option for Davinci Resolve or other NLE's. Or if you want a lot better performance and longer term investment then get a M1 based Mini...

No Drones Allowed - Can they say this?

FWIW, that is an official/legal sign posted with authorization by the council. Those are used frequently for temporary restrictions or until printed signs can be produced. I've no idea the enforceability of it. Scottish land laws can be quite strange. Even if not legally enforceable, why be a...

Calm but '32 mph gusts' according to UAV Forecast. Risky to fly?

Just as I was getting ready to take off a pretty healthy gust blew through. I decided to live for another day :-) Thanks,

Calm but '32 mph gusts' according to UAV Forecast. Risky to fly?

It is currently quite calm, 21°f, with a minor bit of leaf movement. I've not noticed any gusts but have only been paying close attention for the past 10 minutes. However, UAV Forecast says 32 MPH gusts. How risky to fly Mavic 2 Pro? My purpose is to look down the plumbing vents of our house...

We are just hurting ourselves... Wildlife harassment, illegal flights on campus, and BVLOS flights.. all in ONE

Shouldn't be as in common courtesy or shouldn't be by any regulatory statute? What about flying over and around the campus but take-off/landing from adjacent public property?

We are just hurting ourselves... Wildlife harassment, illegal flights on campus, and BVLOS flights.. all in ONE

The pilot is responsible for knowing the surroundings where they are flying. See my reply above. Staff, Faculty and Students would be aware if they signed a code of conduct.

They stated 'campus community' which is generally staff, faculty and students. Must uni's have codes of conduct for each of these groups which terms of employment/enrollment can be based on abiding by. They cannot violate constitutional law with the code but they can likely say that 'members of...

Law Question: Can a City Commission arbitrarily make rules regulating Drones without FAA approval?

Not necessarily. They frequently overstep their authority. Sometimes for a good and reasonable reason and sometimes not. And sometimes even when they are within their authority something might be worth challenging.

    Mavic 3 very expensive

For me optical zoom (or interchangeable lenses) would be a critical selling point. There's a huge difference in a long lens and a crop of a wide lens - even if both images include the exact same framing and result in the exact same resolution, dynamic range and color depth. (I know most on here...

How to balance privacy and access ?

Good points. I think you likely have a lot more air traffic than most. In querying people about this only one other person had much of an issue w/ regular air traffic and they lived near a small plane airport. Otherwise it's not an issue. Aircraft are either too far away to be a reasonable...
