Tragic Aerial collision over the Potomac

Maybe they are using Phantoms because they can't buy newer models, but the federal ban on DJI doesn't just cover buying new models - it prohibits use of any DJI equipment. I've been futilely fighting that battle for many years now, and forced to use substandard, but approved, non-DJI aircraft as...

Tragic Aerial collision over the Potomac

The NTSB released aerial video of the crash site, that they acquired using what appears to be a Phantom 4. I guess I would have expected, firstly, that they would use more recent equipment and, secondly, that they would not be using DJI aircraft.

    Enterprise Advanced thermal camera problem

I have ghosting on my M2EA, clearly caused by the FFC shutter only partially closing. It's sticking about half open. So roughly half of the sensor gets a good correction but the other half is still seeing though the lens giving a spurious correction. The solution for useable images was just to...

Mavic Flight Log Retrieval and Analysis Guide

I'd be happy to update it but I'm not sure that I have all the necessary information. I'm still flying a Mavic 2 Pro (GO 4 app) and a Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced (Fly app), both on a Smart Controller. I haven't used Litchi for a while now. If anyone wants to send me comprehensive update notes...

Mavic pro showing up on Flight Radar 24....weird?>

Thanks for the response, and I understand your suspicions. I'll reiterate that I'm not ruling out your injection hypothesis. An issue with N12345 is just that it is such an obvious fake number, so why would it be chosen for an injection attack. And I suspect that the fact that it is actually...

Mavic pro showing up on Flight Radar 24....weird?>

That's a strangely defensive response. So you do like my explanation? Nowhere did I argue that injection is not a possible explanation - just that it's not the simplest solution. And I made the point that if you have examples of unphysical flight data masquerading as real flights then that...

Mavic pro showing up on Flight Radar 24....weird?>

I'm not preaching to the choir; you clearly disagree with my post. What does being an ADS-B host have to do with this? And why do you not like the simple and obvious explanation that it is just one or more aircraft owners programming their ADS-B transponders with a rather obvious, but incorrect...

Mavic pro showing up on Flight Radar 24....weird?>

A brief look at the flight characteristics shows that it's obviously not a Mavic broadcasting those data - it's a real aircraft. And since the tail number is legitimately registered to a Mavic Pro, that means that someone has either accidentally or deliberately misconfigured their aircraft's...

A short explanation of compass function, calibration and errors.

Thanks for the link, and I took a look at your blog posts. They left me somewhat confused. In your May 3 blog you make the following statement: It is clear from published literature that the vendor’s (manufacturer’s) suggested calibration procedure applies directly to the placement of internal...

    Panorama Control DJI?

Alternatively, you can just hand the RAW images to a program such as PanoVolo, which will automatically create a full-resolution, well stitched, properly formatted 360° pano file.

    Panorama Control DJI?

I take 360° panos with a Mavic 2 Pro using the GO 4 built-in functionality. The aircraft automatically assembles an 8k-equivalent JPEG which is pretty good and about as large as you can display on any of the hosting websites I've found, but also saves the RAW files if requested that can be used...

Mavic 3 Crash - Drone flew forward without me controlling it

That's correct. The MP2 doesn't rotate - it simply reinitializes the IMU yaw value to agree with the new, correct magnetic heading. https://mavicpilots.com/threads/compass-error-demonstration.66323/page-3#post-756214 I never saw this in more recent aircraft flight data, but without the DAT...

Lost GPS = No RTH, why? Not an actual incident, just wondering.

There is no need to do that. You can take actual flight data and easily compute the inertial navigation solution to compare with the actual position and velocity of the aircraft. That directly shows the accuracy that you could expect from the sensors in the aircraft.

Lost GPS = No RTH, why? Not an actual incident, just wondering.

It knows its heading and airspeed from the compass and tilt angle, but it can do better than that in terms of navigating without GNSS positioning. The accelerometers and rate gyros alone theoretically provide a full 3-D position and velocity solution, spoiled only by sensor drift, which is why...

    Helicopter and Drone collision.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the availability of ADS-B data via apps, websites or ADS-B receivers. Data providers such as FlightAware, Flightradar24, ADS-B Exchange etc. can only display aircraft locations if they are receiving ADS-B broadcast by aircraft and received by...
