Unfortunately the statement about ADS-B being mandatory in Europe isn’t quite true. Large aircraft (above 5700kg) flying as CAT (Commercial Air Transport), in IFR airspace (above FL195 I think) have indeed had to have ADS-B out equipment fitted for a few years. However there currently isn’t a...
Hmmm ADS-B is a complex topic and not as useful as you might think in Europe. I’m not sure where some of these percentages come from but for aircraft that are likely to come into conflict with drones (i.e light GA aircraft) there is currently no European mandate to equip with ADS-B out...
That’s much higher than 400’ .... as a PPL I would put that at about 1200-1500 ft. Remember the aircraft is much larger than the drone and perspective plays a massive part in this photo.
Hi Lee,
Im not around Redhill but familiar with the airspace around the area having flown as a private pilot around the Heathrow and Gatwick zones and as an avionics engineer working out of Farnborough and surrounding airfields.
Firstly I would recommend downloading AirMap if you haven’t...
Hi OMM, correct me if I am wrong, but I don’t think setting your RTH to the controller makes any difference if the boat is moving. Unless I’m mistaken when setting RTH at the controller it will return to the controller position (as at when RTH was set), I don’t believe that this is a dynamic...
Firstly sorry for original posters loss - I should have said that in my last post!!
Thanks to both Sars and Lonjsnyder for these great explanations ... right up my street, and remarkably similar to the AHRS (attitude heading reference system) that we have on live aircraft. They use Kalman...
I would be intrigued to know a bit more about the interaction of compass and GPS lock in this case ... anyone know?
I’m an avionics engineer by trade and I cannot understand why an ‘incorrect’ compass value (caused by magnetic interference at the starting point) should be able to cause an out of...
