I would expect that if it can tell that the guards are on it won't bypass obstacles because it can't judge the distance needed to do so or rather is programmed not to try to judge said distance but rather safely stop. Not sure but that's my educated guess.
Obstacle avoidance is for the drone to avoid something while it moves toward it not while the obstacle moves toward the drone. It will beep while hovering though but not move to avoid the approaching obstacle.

Honestly I don't see the need for the landing gear extensions on the air 2 as the front where the camera is is pretty well...
