Louisiana Gov. Landry signs new drone defense law; first in nation

This is a very important issue to consider. Yes, D.C. is working on setting up pilot programs to determine the best and safest way to train and equip LEOs to use mitigation against rogue drones. And I fully support that. But this type of regulation must come from the top down. Local and state...

Anyone else notice this phenomenon while flying?

Birds are attracted (or repelled) by all drones. Most of the time they are just protecting their territory, or just curious. It's definitely not exclusive to your model of drones. I've had them come investigate everything from my old Phantoms, up to my current fleet of different Mavics and...

Is BVLOS coming to the US?

As someone who works closely with the FAA's UAS Office frequently, I can promise you you're wrong. And while we don't have a lobby per se, we do have Drone Service Providers Alliance, Home - Drone Service Providers Alliance

Is BVLOS coming to the US?

It's about airspace situational awareness. Where I fly 2 miles out, I have a good view of any approaching aircraft. 3 maybe, but there is no way someone can have situational airspace awareness at 5 miles. See and avoid has to become detect and avoid at those distances. That would be the...

Is BVLOS coming to the US?

As currently written, these new rules (supposedly called Part 108) are directed at the commercial side of things. But as with all 107 regs, they are likely to filter down to the recreational world at some point. Incorrect. As someone who has sat on committees with the likes of Amazon and Wing...

Great breakdown of the latest Executive Orders signed on 6/6/25 by President Trump.

If you have any concerns, or want to learn more about the EOs from the White House yesterday, watch this. « TLDR: overall good info, with a few bits that need watching.

Newbee thoughts about Trust vs 107

The 107 is NOT a joke. It's designed for those who don't come from an aviation background. The vast majority of drone pilots are not previous aviators. This is their first foray into the world of aviation. As such, it's a very basic test. As it should be. Yes, there are those who feel superior...

Newbee thoughts about Trust vs 107

A little clarification is needed here. First, there is no such thing as "commercial" drone rules in the United States. 14 CFR §107 is the default set of drone regulations in the U.S. Which means if you fly a drone in the U.S., you must fly under §107 unless you meet the criteria for 49 USC...

Believe it or not? DJI rep says they pay all tariffs.

Some are, but all are done via the Amazon DJI store, so they are approved vendors.

Believe it or not? DJI rep says they pay all tariffs.

DJI assuming some of the cost of the tariff increase. But they cannot continue doing this. That is why the trade war needs to end now. There is zero benefit to the U.S. drone industry because there is nothing to replace DJI and Autel drones. So the theory of encouraging U.S. manufacturing is a...

Believe it or not? DJI rep says they pay all tariffs.

-ish... Yes, DJI pays the actual tariffs, but only on the front end. We should be under no illusion that we as end users don't pay the actual tariff (or part of it) on the backend when we pay our final bill. I deal with DJI management (not dealer reps or customer service) on a regular basis...

Is the Mini 4 Pro the drone for me?

For easier interpretation: Is it "flown strictly for recreational purposes"? If not, then it's a flight that requires a Remote Pilot Certificate. Public COA, 333, and a few other minor exceptions may apply as well, but 99+% of all drone flights are either §107 or §44809.

Is the Mini 4 Pro the drone for me?

Nope. 14 CFR §107 is the default set of rules for UAS use in the NAS. Nowhere in §107 is the word "commercial" ever found. Unless you are flying recreationally (with a couple of other less used exceptions), every drone flight in the U.S. is under §107 rules. The exception to that is 49 USC...
