When I update the firmware for the drone and controller... does each individual battery need to be updated?

If yes, how?

Thanks for not pointing and laughing.

No you are not required to update the batteries, only the drone and controller will need to be updated,

when you update the fly app or firmware on the drone the battery updates with it. If you have extra batteries when you power the drone on you get a prompt to update that batteries firmware for only the new batteries not present when you did the original update. least how it works on MA2 and Mini

I am updating to v01.01.0610 and getting no battery prompts. Maybe this update just doesn’t require a battery update?

are you talking about a single battery you were using to update? If that's the case you don't have to do anything extra for the battery.

No. I mean for my two extra batteries

So, I will get a notification in the DJI Fly app and the drone will update the battery firmware? Am I understanding you correctly?

@jw83876 as has already been said ,most firmware updates do not include the batteries, whenever an update is done using the App ,then during the update if the battery is being updated then towards the end of the procedure ,the battery lights will start to flash as this is taking place ,then when another battery is inserted into the drone ,you will get a message asking you to update that battery and so on till all the batteries are done

Ok. Just trying to do this right. I have read one too many threads about drones falling out of the sky... ?

Using DJI Assistant, after you update the AC and battery, shut it down, insert another battery and run the assistant again. If it needs to update the battery it will tell you it needs to update. That basically tells you the firmware update had a battery update so after you finish, plug in the next battery and finish that one off. Not all firmware updates include battery updates so after you put the second one in, if it says you are up to date you'll know there was no battery update in the firmware.

Thank you. That completely answers my question with zero ambiguity. And thanks to everyone else who contributed as well, every post was appreciated. Guess it wasn’t as dumb of a question as I thought it might be.

This came up because when I first purchased the MA2 I know for a fact that I had to update the batteries. Today I got my third battery from B&H and was expecting to have to update it as well. Thanks to your assistance, I now realize my original assumption was not correct. Thank you.

The battery must have been updated before you got it maybe.
You sure live in a beautiful part of the country. I drove from White Bird Idaho to there to get my bed liner in my truck sprayed in.

Relax
Battery firmware updates (when they are issued) are very minor tweaks and won't prevent the kind of things that might cause a rare fall-from-the-air incident.

Yes I certainly do. And I want to capture all of it in 4K with my drone! It’s breathtaking. This picture is from my deck... and I have another thousand to go with it.

Beautiful. Did you go get the treasure?
This was my view from my front porch when I lived in White Bird. The Salmon River was at the bottom of the valley running along the left.

The treasure is being able to wake up to that view every morning.
