Above Heather Lake

Very Ansel Adams'ish! Such great framing and definition!

I kinda wish I could claim that I took that shot. :)

Awesome shot but why in B&W?

eutx, Like BDOG says, I'm always trying to emulate Ansel. I love B&W for its simplicity - it feels like a distillation down to the essence.

I have always been an AA fan. This truly is reminiscent of his work. Did you use a polarizing filter to darken the sky when shooting or did you do that in post or did it just turn out that way?

Heather Lake, below Mt. Pilchuck in Washington's central Cascades, is one of the easiest access little hikes near my house.

M2P RAW shots stitched in ACR converted to B&W with Silver FX Pro

I am also a big fan of B&W. I remember back in the late seventies paying a lot for a specialist photo lab to develop my B&W film. Those were fun times :-)

That is one beautiful picture!

Thanks for all the comments guys. I too used to try shooting some B&W film BITD, with very limited success - I could never get the use of filters down since it looks so weird in the viewfinder of an SLR. I now love shooting color then converting in post, which gives me so much more control than with film and all virtually instant rather than the time consuming darkroom process. I did apply a red filter in Silver FX to darken the sky, along with quite a bit of other local adjustments to the color image in ACR.

Now one of Lake 22 and another angle on Mt Pilchuck. I think I'm too old to lug my Zoom in. Did you also take video?

f22, yes I did try shooting some video up along the ridge on the left skyline in this picture, but it isn't anything special. I'm still much more of a still photog.

I agree with everyone else... Terrific shot! Definitely evokes Ansel Adams. I love B&W photography and have been thinking about trying some with my Mavic. You've inspired me to make it happen!! Thanks for sharing your work!
