It's fairly standard for any Airmen.

Valuable material to keep you busy while waiting>

EXCELLENT reference material for becoming a more knowledgeable pilot in the mean time:

Absolutely all material for 107 certification study is to be found on the FAA.GOV web site FREE. You DO NOT need to purchase anything additional.

https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/acs/media/uas_acs.pdf
In particular check page A-8

90% of the UAS Pilot study material is in this study guide.

Great first start: https://www.faa.gov/regulations_pol...s/aviation/media/remote_pilot_study_guide.pdf

This booklet is available for download from the FAA.GOV web or purchase elsewhere as well.
It is the ONLY reference permitted for use during test for 107, and it is supplied during the test.
https://www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/supplements/media/sport_rec_private_akts.pdf

Handy reference: Aeronautical Chart Users’ Guide: https://www.faa.gov/air_traffic/fli...ide/media/editions/25Feb2021/cug-complete.pdf

Download the Sectional Chart for your particular area as a learning tool: Sectional Aeronautical Chart

Airport Diagrams for your local airports: (Good test study reference): FAA Airport Diagrams

Absolutely all reference material can be found on the FAA.GOV web sites. No need to go shopping else where.

Even if you do NOT test for 107 pilot, these reference materials are indispensable knowledge areas.

So if I have a mavic air 2 and use it for recreational purposes only, do I need to take this test? Info about this seems very inconsistent.
First off, WELCOME to the forum :)

The subject of this thread is indeed the RECREATIONAL test in the USA. Yes, if you fly "only" recreationally this will be the test you will need to take. The very first line in the linked page states it fairly clearly as:

"The Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST)"

In order to fly under the "Protective Bubble" of ~44809 and NOT be accountable for Part 107 Rules & Regulations you have to meet ALL of the following (the test , #7 is being developed now as is #2 so they are N/A at this moment)
  • (1) The aircraft is flown strictly for recreational purposes.
  • (2) The aircraft is operated in accordance with or within the programming of a community-based organization's set of safety guidelines that are developed in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration.
  • (3) The aircraft is flown within the visual line of sight of the person operating the aircraft or a visual observer co-located and in direct communication with the operator.
  • (4) The aircraft is operated in a manner that does not interfere with and gives way to any manned aircraft.
  • (5) In Class B, Class C, or Class D airspace or within the lateral boundaries of the surface area of Class E airspace designated for an airport, the operator obtains prior authorization from the Administrator or designee before operating and complies with all airspace restrictions and prohibitions.
  • (6) In Class G airspace, the aircraft is flown from the surface to not more than 400 feet above ground level and complies with all airspace restrictions and prohibitions.
  • (7) The operator has passed an aeronautical knowledge and safety test described in subsection (g) and maintains proof of test passage to be made available to the Administrator or law enforcement upon request.
  • (8) The aircraft is registered and marked in accordance with chapter 441 of this title and proof of registration is made available to the Administrator or a designee of the Administrator or law enforcement upon request.

If you do not meet all APPLICABLE portions of the above requirements, you flight is governed by Part 107 and you are accountable for all aspects of Part 107.
