I just purchased an Air 3S yesterday and wanted to compare the 12mp and 48mp camera settings. My controller does not have an option for this, it only shows the 12mp setting. I updated the firmware and still don't get a 48mp setting. Am I missing something?

I know on the Air 3 that there is this option in the menu.

If the Air 3S is anything like other DJI drones with the option to shoot at different resolutions, you would have to switch to the short tele camera, then go to the Camera settings in the app and you would find it here:

Do you have an SD card that you can stick in the drone to see if that option changes? I know the Air 3s has great internal memory but just curious.

I do have an SD card installed. Interestingly, I can't charge any of my batteries past 50% either and I've been trying for 24 hours. I bought the drone on the day of release from Best Buy here in Canada, not the DJI Store. It appears they only had a few available in the complete region. I'm beginning to think software/firmware issues of some sort.

Interesting. I think I would return it.
What is the wattage of the charging brick you're using? 65w or 100w?

I've just been charging with the USB plugged into a 120v power outlet. My Air2s batteries charged in about an hour. Not a single battery from the Air2S will charge even to 50% after 6 hours. I even tried plugging the drone into the power supply with no luck. That being said, when I flew the drone a few days ago I had decent flight time even though the batteries were only showing 1 blinking light. With this and the lack of being able to shoot 48mp something is not right.

@GFields might be on to something. If your USB charger has very low wattage, it may not be sufficient to charge up the 3S batteries. You should really get a 65w or 100w charger. If you look at your USB charger, you might find it's only 5w or something. And / Or your USB cable could have a low wattage rating.

The Air2S has it's own charging brick / hub, that probably has decent wattage. There are good aftermarket charging bricks, or you can get an official one from DJI.

But the inability to switch to 48 or 50MP is a mystery.

1. The fact you only see 12MP is NOT NORMAL.
You should see 12 and 50 in 1x camera and 12 and 48 with the 3x camera.
2. The fact you can’t charge above 50% is very normal. The batteries are very high capacity and require high voltage in addition to high amperage. You need at least a 65W USB-C PD (20V 3.25A) charger to be able to charge the Air 3/3S batteries to 100%. Best would be to use a 100W PD charger (20V 5A) as that will charge the batteries in about one hour each. DJI even says the minimum rating needs to be 65W. Anything below that it will charge much slower and anything below about 35W, it will not even charge all the way, as it is in your case.

Yes, the Air2S had a charger. I think you're right about not enough wattage. It came to my mind late last night as well. I assumed the charger was built into the hub but it isn't. Now why DJI doesn't give you a charger in the Fly More kit is perplexing.

The inability to switch to 48mp is still very odd. I may try another drone firmware update and if that doesn't work contact DJI.

Not on the USB-A port in the included charger, and based on what he's said, I suspect this is what he's talking about.

To fully charge an A3(S) battery, you need a PD charger capable of 20V and at least 30W. A USB-standard 5V/2.5A charger won't do it.

An update. I did another firmware update on the drone and now have the 48mp and 50mp settings available as well as free pano. All seems to be good!
Nice! I was just going to suggest you double check your firmware because I just saw that on release date they put out firmware which added the 48/50MP modes:

OA works now at 33mph... impressive. Compare this to the early mavics when it maxed out at around 20.
