I have encountered numerous false OA detections (I have screen recordings to verify) with the Air 3S in my latest waypoint missions with the Air 3S at numerous locations both local and aboard. I have seen FB group mention of the similar issues with the Air 3S but never with the Air 3.
I have contacted DJI tech support and they don't seem to know what is going on.
Not sure any of you have encountered the same problems.

I’ve been encountering the same issue with my Matrice 4E during Area Route mapping missions. I also noticed it during the Return To Home flights after the mission completes. The problem is not due to a dirty sensor as I routinely clean the camera lenses and all of the sensor lenses before the first flight. I initially thought it could be being caused by the sun, but the OA detection happens during the entire flight, whether I’m flying toward the sun, away from the sun, or perpendicular to the sun.

I sent my aircraft in to DJI for service/repair and they were unable to find anything anomalous. Communication with the DJI technicians was excellent, but they were unable to recreate the issue. I was asked to try to video the aircraft when it is detecting false obstacles and to reach back out to them to show the issue (I haven’t received the aircraft back from DJI yet as it was only sent in this week). I’ll let you know how it goes….

I don't believe these false detections are due to the Sun or dirty lens. I have screen shots videos that showed the incidents occurred at exactly the same location, height (I have ran same the waypoint mission twice just to verify) at the same distance to the Home Point with no obstacles could be seen on the screen.
IMHO I suspect that it could be an internal problem with the Air 3S. I am going to run the same waypoint mission next week with both the Air 3S and Air 3.
BTW, I have never encountered any such issue with the Air 3 even in bad weather conditions. I plan to get to the bottom of this. We shall see.

False OA detection is usually from the sun or a dirty sensor.
Correct. It doesn’t take much external interference to throw off the OA sensors. Remember, these devices are less sophisticated than most collision avoidance systems on automobiles. The cameras are low resolution, monochrome sensors that detect sudden contrast changes. The Mavic 4 Pro ushers in a whole new obstacle avoidance system that uses LiDAR technology that is a whole lot more sophisticated and accurate. It will be interesting to see when this feature trickles down to the mid-range priced drones.

All very good points. However, after experiencing the OA issues on my M4E, I immediately flew the same mapping mission with my M3E and didn’t have this issue. The M4E didn’t act this way until recently, which makes me suspect a firmware issue.

I never had any issues running waypoint missions in numerous locations local and aboard and with different weather conditions with the Air 3. Well, what is the difference between Air 3 and Air 3S? LiDAR!

I was advised to fly a minute or two at a low level to “calibrate” the sensors… by DJI support. Doesn’t make sense to me but it may possibly have helped. It’s been random but not happened lately.
