Hi,

Had something strange happen with my new air.

Was the first time I flew it and took off from the backyard. It went up hovered for a few seconds then veered right on its own and hit something.

I was 1-1.5m away and drone was facing me on lift off. Had GPS. All that was done was the auto take off. Tried again but this time turned it to the side and I was behind it and it worked as normal.

Took a quick flight and came down to land and as it came low and was hovering about to land, it did it again and just moved right and hit something.

I’ve done this many times with my Mavic Pro and never had an issue holding a still hover on lift off and launching it where I was.

Could this be the APAS kicking in because I was in front of it? I wasn’t moving the sticks at all when it started to move right.

Have you tried recalibrating the compass and IMU? Also beware of metal surroundings. I found that the Air's compass is a little more susceptible to magnetic interference caused by nearby structures than the Phantom was. Concrete structures could have metal rebar in it.

I haven’t yet as I just took off overseas. Just wanted a quick flight at home to make sure it was working before I took it away.

Will try recalibration before next flight. You’re right though I was near a metal fence just didn’t think it was an issue as I’d done the same thing with the Pro many times. I thought maybe the APAS had kicked in as it detected me but I wasn’t moving it so wasn’t sure.

Confidence a bit shaken now after being so comfortable with the old one.

Thanks!

To be on the safe side recalibrate the IMU it might have something to do with FW update that the IMU needs a recal.

Hi guys,

I had the same thing twice the last time ended fatal... luckily it is covered in an assurance.
Sadly the usb port was broken so no logs to export and analyse.

Interestingly I've heared in the shop where i bought it that i wasen't the only facing this issue.

So could this be a bug in HW/SW? Or just the thing mentioned above.

I definitely will from now on recalibrate the IMU after every update. I didn't do this till now.

Unfortunately, without any logs there is no way in telling what has caused it. But I'd assume that if it was a firmware issue, that more people would have reported it. The most likely scenario is an uncalibrated compass/IMU or a takeoff from a high magnetic interference area.

Not necessarily true - logs are also stored on the device you used to control it, albeit at a lower sampling rate. I do it on my iPhone all the time.

Reports of this crappy firmware causing issues are everywhere.

How many GPS satellites did you have? You need minimum of 11-12 at all times with maximum signal strength to rule that out as an issue.

Recalibrating would also be a good idea.

You need the logs to know anything for sure, all anyone here can do is guess otherwise.

My Air still has had zero issues regardless of app version or firmware since I got it back in March.
