Altitude ceiling question

As I am still flying in beginner mode I want to know how the 30m ceiling is gauged, I want to take some footage over cliffs which are considerably higher and wonder if when I drift over from the cliff top where I will be will the drone drop to 30m or is it measured from the controller altitude.
I have no burning desire to find out the hard way and have to become a mountaineer to retrieve it from the bottom of the cliffs

AGL or at ground level so yes if you start high up in a mountain you can still go 30m from where you take off from..

It will not drop over the edge of the cliff.

You will be ok it is 30m above ground level from where you took off
