Just wondering, I have a client that wants me to take a few drone shots. It is about 19 km from an airport, but on the drone selection tool there is a second red circle saying: “Control Zone Airspace” Basic RPAS operations are not permitted within the zone indicated by the red filled shape.

This second larger circle reaches the 19 kms away property where I want to fly the drone.

Under the info box of the circle there’s a details Dropbox which says:
Valid: 26 MARCH 2020 to 21 MAY 2020
It also says Class D.

So of course I have a few questions about being allowed to fly:

- is this area not valid because it’s June now and it should not be a concern?
- can I fly in class d with a mini mavic anyways?

EXTRA DETAILS
- on the DJI map the no fly zone isn’t even close to where I want to fly

Thanks and I look forward to any help!

I would say yes since the Mavic Mini does not fall under the scope of an RPAS as defined in CARS. As long as you are not flying recklessly, you should be good to go.

Thanks for the reply! I think I’m far enough away to not cause any concern to the airport. I will stay low and fly safe.
