Any hopes DJI add direct WiFi control to the Mini 2?

Yeah, I used to love this feature on my MA mk1. Very useful for quick shots without wasting pretty much anytime for setting up.

I tenderly care for and preserve my MA1 for this reason, and gesture control. The latter is a bit gimmicky, but for a quick pose with my wife with, say, the coast in the background, it's worth it.

With wifi control, you can bring the drone-only in it's little hard case, just the size of the drone.

I love the MA1. Hardly fly it any more, but it does have its uses that none of the others in my Squadron can meet.

The problem with that is if your phone die or you receive a phone call what are you going to do? When the remote control in order to fly you don't really need to have the phone.

If close enough for gesture control, you land it that way.

Regardless, like all DJI drones, it'll simply RTH if it loses contact with the phone.
