Any reason NOT to get the Platinum (for extreme traveller)?

Any reason NOT to get the Platinum and buy the Mavic Pro? Price is not an issue. Reliability is.

Noise is not much of an issue, 10% flight time, if it is really 10%, that would be nice.
However, rumoured that the Platinum propellers are more fragile and do not transport on the drone as well as the Mavic Pro's propellers.

Any takes on the subject?

I just got a platinum and have only had it a few days. While I can't compare the props to the regular ones, as I don't have any of those. I will agree that they do seem awfully delicate. I have only taken it out of the box 4 times to update fw and out to fly twice. I already have minor dents on the tips of the props. (Have not hit anything with them) Compared to my spark, the material is thinner and quite a bit softer.
I don't think it will effect performance, but they are there nonetheless.

thank you. what do you think how well the props fold back onto the drone for transport? do they stick out, or have a perfect fit/cocket in the drone? what's the origin of the issue you show in your props? storage? else?

It is from hitting the rear feet when folded up. If the plastic wasn't so soft, I think it wouldn't happen.
It is a very minor detail, one likely overlooked in the design stage as if the props were straight, it wouldn't happen.
It only happens to the rear / bottom props. See pictures. (Sorry for lousy pics, shot them with my phone)
That little hook on the end is what hits the foot. Overall, I like it very well, and the camera is great on it. I especially like the portrait mode and the 2x digital zoom.

The only reason I would hesitate on a Platinum is the early production bugs (if any). They had them on the original Mavic and DJI tends to rush their hardware and software into production. I normally wait a while on new(er) technology.

Regarding the new props, I like them on my MP. I don't think they are more fragile, but they are more flexible. They definitely are quieter. As far as folding them, have the tips rest between the rear feet and the feet actually protect them.

Like Mossiback said, you could fold the props in between the landing legs to prevent that. See the attached screenshot.
(screenshot is from this video)

Haven't got a mavic myself yet, but I'm planning on getting the platinum in a month or so!

Thank you re props.
Any take on stability in wind vs. MP?
Is the flight time really 10% longer?

If price does not matter, Platinum. The only thing you will be gaining is noise level being lower and (every so) slight increase flight time. The Platinum is no more reliable then the Pro.

Very interesting thread. I’m in the market, and trying to make a decision between these two. I was hoping to hear that the mpp might be a little more squared away as a build process goes, but that might not be the case. I find myself most concerned about some reporting less wind stability with the mpp, possibility due to the props, mainly due to the new ESC...as I would fly mostly on the beach where at least slight wind is always present.

I have flown it more and love it. I have seen no stability issues and think it holds a very steady hover. Wind not an issue.
The only instability I see is if descending too fast the AC will wobble a bit side to side.
The one design issue is that the props have a bit more pitch than the original ones so when folding the rear arms in the props hit the underside. The further in you go with them, the more the rear arms will rise above their resting place.
Illustration below.
I plan to have GPC make me a custom case to hold the bird with all arms open. This will reduce wear on moving parts, protect the props better and allow for faster deployment. I will also have provision in the case to hold Remote with Crystalsky attached.

Your case will be convient but will also be large. The small size is what I like most about the bag that came in the FMC. It holds everything I need to fly, packs easily, and I draw no attention to myself when carrying it. I used a Pelican case at first and quickly found the downsides of it's stowing space and weight and when I carried it to a flight it definitely drew attention. Then on one flight I wanted to walk while flying but could not leave the case behind and could not carry it while flying. Your case sounds cool but be aware of the downsides.

I know it takes a bit away from the quick setup and launch but, when storing wouldn't it be easier to remove the rear blades? Hence, no stress on the rear arms?

There is much more stress on them flying than stored. The rear blades barely touch when folded. I leave them on.

I know it will be a little bit bigger but I don't want to remove props or fold the bird up every time I put it away.
I have already begun designing it. It will be this shell with different foam.

Measures 20 x 17 x 9. I had that size case when I had a Phantom 4 pro and it was great. Plus, I want to be able to leave Crystalsky on mavmount attached to rc.
Sort of like this case I had made for my Spark.

I travel all the time and have carried it on 30+ flights. No issues with TSA, no issues with wear and tear, and have had one person comment that it is quieter than other drones they have seen. MP would be choice.BTW-- I use the fly more bag and now carry it nose down in bag, and carry that fly more bag inside a carry on bag for airplanes.

I bought Platinum blades for my MP, yes they seem more flimsy /lighter, but if you are interested in the flight time, you can always remove them for transport.

Or make your own sleeve. :)
It takes longer to setup, but it becomes a process to remind me to also remove gimbal cover and clamp before take-off.

Sounds like the extra flight time is what's important to you.
I got about 1.5 minutes more with the new props on my MP.
When I crashed my MP I had it replaced with a MPP.
I'm one of the ones had stability and other issues.
In fact I just returned it to Amazon for replacement when the internal fan stopped working and it overheated.
My new MPP will be in today and I hope it's a smoother experience than the last one.
Meanwhile I resurrected my crashed MP and I am reminded how smooth it flies.
Honestly I'm not sure I recommend the Platinum over the regular MP.
Get some new props and enjoy a longer flight time and reduced noise and save some money.

Brojon,
Very interested in hearing your final thoughts on these two based on getting some time on your new MPP. I’d rather not spend the extra money if MP wins on the stability in wind side of things.

The wobble during fast descent is from running into your own prop wash. Both the MP and MPP will do that.
