Anyone from or near New Orleans?

Im driving down to New Orleans in the near future, and just want to know if any members here could recommend a place to stay nearby but outside the city. I see hotel and parking prices are pretty high, so Im looking for a place that we could Uber to and from the city if we get too drunk to drive.

I live just outside New Orleans. All of the hotel prices are high right now because of Mardi Gras. You want to go west from New Orleans since its safer then some of the other areas. There are a lot of decent hotels in Metairie just off interstate 10 or close to the airport in Kenner which is only 15 - 25 minutes from Downtown.

Be careful near the airport. As with any major city, the immediate area surrounding the airport is not the nicest

Whew, you beat me to it! My whole family is from Nola... don't trust anyone on the street offering you anything. Stick to the main Bourbon St area and only get adventurous during the day. Just saying.
