Don’t know if this is something you’ve come across. When shooting today 60 FPS , 1080 p the air2 would not rise to avoid an obstacle it just hovered. Changed to 30fps and it rises to go over the same obstacle.

The processor can't handle both APAS and 60fps at the same time. 30fps is the top frame rate to use APAS. Similarly, the only way to shoot 4K 60fps is in H.265. The processor can't handle the larger file size of H.264 when shooting 4K at 60fps. Both are processor limitations.

GadgetGuy. When I select 4K 60fps will H.265 be automatically selected or is this another setting the op has to change.

Yes, only way to shoot in 4K at 60fps is in H.265. You cannot select H.264.
Have to drop to 4K at 30fps to have a choice of shooting in H.264 or H.265. For shooting at dusk, I would recommend 4K 30fps (in either format) because you gain a full stop of light for shooting at a minimum video shutter speed of 1/30 second instead of a minimum of 1/60 second per frame at 60fps.

I’ve read up on this coding. I still do t really understand it, maybe it’s my age ha ha. Would you record in H.265 for all recordings or just 4K 60fps. Why would you not leave it set to 265 for all recordings.

You can leave it to 265 for all recordings. Some phone devices don't deal well (or at all) with h265 for people editing on the phone. On computers, it is more processor intensive to render, so older computers probably "prefer" h264.

H.265 produces smaller files. H.264 produces files 2x - 4x as large, with identical quality. H.265 is not well standardized, far more difficult to decode, and therefore is far less reliable across various hardware and software platforms. If you want 4K video, you don’t have a choice. You need to have a workflow worked out to deal with it’s foibles. If you are shooting HD you are better off with H.264 and put up with the bigger files.

Thanks for the info. It’s something I had not understood or considered altering before. H265 will be my new normal as they say.

The only real advantage of H.265 is its smaller file size, which is necessary for higher video frame rates and other processor intensive actions like APAS. As long as your workflow can handle H.265 files, have at it! Proxy files help! Otherwise, stick with H.264 except when H.265 is the only option.
