Hello all, I have been using Areoscope for about a month now. I have two antenna and get around a 30 mile radius of monitoring. I never thought there are so many drones (DJI) flying every day. How many drones a day do you think on average I see? (They are logged by flight so one drone can be multiple loggs) Right now is around the 400 mark. I can see the drones location, speed, height, and how long its been flying. I know where the home point is and where the controller is. I don't see the name or personal information of anyone but do see the drone SN this could be used to find the owner. (No my job). It does not show if a person has filed LAANC. So a person may be questioned if in an area requiring authorization. By looking at patterns and aircraft types, there are a lot of MA2 owners out there. It looks like a lot of unknowable flyers to, flying in a TFR, close by stadiums and Airports, above 400'. So some are smart enough to modify so they can fly in restricted zones. I don't see flyers doing much BVLOS and that's good. But the number one place flown are the 3 main bridges crossing the bay. Happy flying all, just thought I would give a little insight to Areoscope and what I see.

Did you not sign any type of NDA or Confidentiality with your job?

Thank you thats interesting. I don't see the name or personal information of anyone but do see the drone SN this could be used to find the owner. (Not my job). Just curious whose job is it to match SN with owner ID and how do they do it?

About the non disclosure, new information has been given There cannot be found In Public information of their product. 2nd I have not providing any personal information of anyone. My information is to provide my experience in seeing numbers of flights and most used drone type today.
The SN is nothing more than a tag on car to me. It would take a couple of measures to get any personal information to knew whom the drone belonged to and would have a trail of inquiry or discovery. (Again not my job)

Really interesting post, thankyou. I have always believed that eventually a system will be in place to monitor all UAV flights, with the UAV announcing it's presence, along with owner information. Probably with the ability to shut down a UAV before it takes to the air. Makes it safer for everyone and less faff with seeking permissions.

I thought there was a app coming out that would see drones around you or did I dream that.

Here in the US that's called Remote ID and it's most likely coming to us sooner than later. The final details have yet to be ironed out so we don't know exactly what is coming but some form of Remote ID is going to happen.

That's affirmative but IIRC it's still early Beta and part of the Remote ID proposal.

I love the AeroScope system. We played with it in Denver, at the AFA, and at the Bronco's stadium.

Anytime I'm flying I always add my name and phone number in the RID section on the app. It's a great way to let the folks who are monitoring the scope all the info they need.

Vic you are always above the bar. Thanks

Who are the folks monitoring the scope, who makes them sign NDAs and why, what are the steps necessary to unmask registered owners, and why all the cloak and dagger secrecy? This should all be transparent public information.

Since there is the possibility of personal information being transmitted (emails were part of the first generation software), DJI has to be careful with what data their software can intercept. If certain information is collected without permission, it becomes a wiretap issue. Some things need a court order to be collected w/o the person's knowledge.

As far was NDAs, that's between the people who sell them and monitor them (it's not DJI), and those who operate them. They are also forbidden from releasing some of the info they collect, and/or how the system works.

Thank you for the info. I appreciate how you explained that. I am just curious whether unmasking the owner requires a search warrant except in emergency and if so, who has access to DJI drone registration data base.

It is my understanding that DJI will check its database in order to assist law enforcement. However, since I don't work with folks who actually run the systems, I'm not 100% sure how that works. In my discussions with DJI, I have been told access is limited. I just don't know the exact process.

As mentioned above I've worked with the system itself (I organized and flew with two other pilots at DIA when they were testing their system). It's a great system to help LEO and security locate the clues and careless flyers who are in the air when or where they're not supposed to be.

They used it to find me when I flew (legally) at one of the Broncos game last year's preseason Monday Night Football game.
