Athens - Parthenon a short clip :)

I've been walking inside Parthenon in my visit in Athens but honestly the view from the sky is amazing.. just a short clip I hope you enjoy it

Great video capture. Nice views of an iconic Old World site. There are LOTS of historic, important places just begging to be captured by drone. It's a great way to bring the World into people's lives. Film some more sites while you're there and share again, please. Always interested in seeing clips such as this.

Hi bucefalo,

Did you have a permit to film these archeological sites? Because according to the Greek UAS rules (19.3 in http://www.ypa.gr/userfiles/fa3cb89c-ac1a-4d4b-99ab-a34f011804e1/HCAA-UAS-Regulation-Final.pdf) you can only film archeological sites with a permit.

If you did not have a permit, please inform yourself next time you go filming somewhere first. Illegal drone use reflects badly on the entire community!! And Greece is usually not very gentle with those breaking the law!

hey tom thanks for your Msg.. could you please send the same message to the rest of the group? for example one post whee someone is filming in Amalfi, Italy.. that also is not regular.. there is also another filming in Miami downtown and.. yes probably 100 more!
the point is according to regulations there is no way to use the drone.. BUT following the ethic rules and safety rules (as I did) you could reconsider your post!
[edit] sorry I forgot to mention that I saw your nice video in Switzerland.. where you are flying above other people properties (did you ask authorizations?) cause from Switzerland uav regulations you need 1)insurance 2) ask authorization and respect people property/privacy... and 3) fly in a line of sight.. in your video I see all these rules broken?

Tom that's a little uncalled for IMO - I'm the first to say something when people post videos where they flew without care and in an unsafe way, but when it comes to general prohibitions on filming that are not safety related I think it should be up to the individual whether they are prepared to risk a fine or feel they can justify their behavior in court.

Whether or not I would personally fly there, I thought the OPs video showed safe and courteous flying that didn't put anyone at risk or cause a disturbance.

Sorry but no rules were broken.
1) Yes I have insurance
2) As long as people are unrecognisable no permission is needed
3) I flew line of sight and had my eyes on my aircraft at all times. When you stand high above what you film and have some good strobes you can have a good view!!

Also I was under 150m above were i took off (another Swiss rule)

Regarding other people doing things that are not allowed.....just keep doing it. They will restrict us further and further for not respecting the rules and in the end you will not be able to fly anywhere anymore. So when people tell you you are breaking the rules learn from it!

Then one more tip regarding Greece: People have been imprisoned for spotting aeroplanes at a commercial airport in the past. So ignoring rules regarding flying around one of their main sources of income might not get you nice treatment either!

Dear Boris,

Have you ever been to Athens? Acropolis and many other sites there are surrounded by walkways and roads. Not sure if that is a safe place to fly! They are crawling with tourists pretty much all the time.

tom the point is to just be conscious of the rules and not make any sort of problems! fly with responsability and don't disturb anyone in their daily life!
in my video I took all sort of precautions cause I don't want to cause any problem and neither get problems! I flew away from people.. I didn't fly over any single monument (above it..) and in my flights I was never trying to get close.. so close to be a danger! being irresponsible is totally another story! but that does not apply to me.. thanks

Sorry,

I did not mean to say you were irresponsible. But in the eyes of the law any infraction is an infraction. Governments tend to impose more and stricter rules when they see regular infraction of any rule. Responsible behaviour is not what they are after. All they want is compliance.

The problem is that we are in a period where lawmakers have no real idea yet what to do with us. When in doubt they tend to overreact and over-restrict. In this climate any infraction will be reason for them to restrict even more.

So by breaking the laws, however safely, we are creating a climate in which we will even have to break more laws to fly. So perhaps it might be smarter to talk to your MP's, representatives, etc. to get their support and fight for more common sense rules. Make sure you limit your infractions though as infractions would limit their basis to work from!

Great vid @bucefalo. I'm coming from Greece and I can tell you for sure that no law is broken during your flight and no one is gonna said that it's an archeological place and "shame" to you for filming in that area! You could also flight your drone at 10 m away from the Parthenon and even then you haven't had any issues.
Maybe and I say maybe a police officer would asked you some questions about your drone and nothing else.
I didn't think that Akropolis or the Parthenon is gonna say anything. Every day thousands of visitors are thrown away their garbage and no one say anything to no one....
Keep up with good vids. Next time, visit Santorini for great vids [emoji6].

Hi Tom,

Yes I've been to Athens, and although I haven't lived there I am quite familiar with the location of the paths and such around the various historic sites, I think the OP didn't directly overly the paths or built up areas although it's sometimes hard to tell exactly from a video, however when you compare this to a lot of videos showing overflights of people and built up areas it seems that care was taken to avoid that in his video.

SO tired of drone police posts. Talk about ruining something - they take the fun and free spirited nature of this forum and just strangle it. No one like a know-it-all. No one likes a tattletale. No one likes people who take every opportunity to point out errors (real or not).
