You do realize that article was written over 4 years ago. The first line clued me in that it was old or if recent, the writer incompetent.

Yep, that article is from 2016.
Also worth note. The state of Arizona passed a law in 2017 reserving to the state all authority /laws governing drone flying in Arizona. It is still in place and laws passed by county, city, etc are actually illegal.

I can understand the privacy concerns, especially around cities. I see a rising resentment (often for no good reason) about drones in the air. When you stop and consider it, there are loads of jets and helicopters and other vehicles flying around. Our small drones are unobtrusive if flown at 200-400 feet and not buzzing people. I believe most drone laws come out of paranoia and pure ignorance (and perhaps jealousy of non-owners!). Nevertheless, like bad campers, bad drone pilots are spoiling it for the good ones. We should form an association in North America to protest unfair regulations. I could tell stories...
