Just upgraded to the Mavic 2 Pro from cutting my teeth on the Air over the summer. My Fly More kit arrived this morning and I got to thinking, 2 batteries will see me over the winter months that are now kicking in so I was going to leave one of them in hibernation for the brighter days to kick back in. could this cause a problem with the battery and will it harm them over time? or can it be kept in this state indefinitely?

Hibernation mode? You mean allowing the battery software to simply discharge the battery to around 30% for storage? If so, this should be fine for a few months. If you wanted to go the extra mile, you could charge it up for 20 minutes or so after a month or two. This would help keep it around 30% and keep it from dropping too low.

no buddy, I mean never charging it it from new, just leaving it in the box until the weather warms up again

Batteries are shipped in hibernation.
Hibernation goes beyond discharging to about 60% after 10 days where after a longer period, 30 days I think, it totally disconnects it's electronics from the battery where you need to connect it to the charger for a bit to wake it up.

Here is a thread @msinger answered about long term storage. This response is about the Mavic Pro series and talks about setting the discharge time in DJI Go 4 to two days. As of yet OR maybe never this function does not exist in the Mavi 2 firmware.

Unless @msinger has any different thoughts, if I had the need for long term inactivity, I would use these guidelines. Here in Arizona I can fly 365 days a year if the wind cooperates.
