Just wondering folks . I just dont have the time to sit with my depleted batteries and charge them up to 60% for storage till next time .
Can I just fully charge them and let them auto discharge . Is this ok for battery life .

Yes, it's fine to do that for battery maintenance when they aren't currently being used.

Some people like to keep their batteries ready to fly at any time, so they get into the habit of fully charging the same ones every couple of days without actually using them. While that's not very common, regularly charging batteries to full without use can cause some minor long-term wear and reduce their overall lifespan.

Yes, that's fine to do. I agree with @msinger about the downsides of doing it that way.👍

In order to do that you would have to first have a way of manually discharging the batteries.

You can no longer easily fully charge DJI batteries until 9 days after previously fully charging them, because once they discharge to 96% after 3 days, you either have to manually discharge them below 96%, or wait until the algorithm discharges them below 96% 9 days later, before they will take a charge to bring them up to 100% again.

The charger will not top off a battery unless the charge is already 95% or below.

I manually discharge to 60% if I haven’t used the fully charged battery after 2 days I use to hubs to charge other devices so that drains the battery to storage level for me as needed..

DJI batteries automatically discharge over time to protect themselves from staying fully charged for long periods, which isn't good for the type of batteries DJI uses.

It's important to understand the difference between charging batteries for maintenance and keeping them topped off as much as possible. Constantly topping them off isn't healthy for DJI batteries. If having batteries always ready to go is a must-have, the best approach is to rotate between different sets of batteries instead of always charging the same ones.

You might be missing a bit of context if your comment is about certain drone models. DJI has made many different drone batteries over the years, going all the way back to 2013.

I keep them out in the open, as they will get very warm if they’re discharging in an enclosed container or in foam padded cells inside a case of some sort. And don’t let them discharge packed touching against each other.

You can purchase 3rd party chargers that have a setting to charge the batteries to 60%. I have these for all my drones. They have the added benefit of being able to charge 4 batteries simultaneously. I even have one for my Air 2s that will discharge batteries down to 60%.
Can you tell me where I can purchase one of these chargers?

BEEN FLYING DJI drones for 7 years I fully charge then let deplete for what ever period even 4 months at a time without any problem

This is the one for the Air 2s that will also discharge the batteries down to 60%:

These ones are popular because they charge all the batteries at once. This is a trusted brand, affectionally known as the "YMCA" charger, due to the logo. These ones do not discharge the batteries down to 60%, but there is a switch you can toggle to charge them up to 60% or 100%. The one for the Mini also shows the charge cycle count for each battery.

I own

Mavic Air and Air 3
For the Air 3, this YX charger lets you switch between charging to 100% for regular use or 60% for storage.

The YX brand of chargers is well-known and consistently gets good reviews across DJI drone models. It's a solid option if you plan to use a 3rd party charger.

These types of battery chargers weren't popular back when the Mavic Air was released. So I'm not sure you'll find a similar battery charger.

Thanks for all the feed back. I used to diligently charge each battery from used (20%) back to 60% for storage till next time , be that next week or month but it just got too tedious . I'll fully charge and let auto discharge in open as suggested . Thanks guys

When I was doing security I would buy Batteries for my Air2s by the LOT I used this charger exclusively and the 4 I have are still going strong. I will tell you the proof about the way you treat Batteries is in the pudding..I keep all my batteries stored at 60% and charge them to 100 on the day of use. Any unused batteries are discharged back to 60 and stored and checked every few weeks.. I have gotten over 200 cycles out of every battery I have treated this way and in fact the only batteries that didnt achieve this cycle count where the very first set of three when I didnt know any better.
Will DJI's way harm your batteries....YES in the long run, it certainly will, and in the short term their way of fully charging them and relying on the "on-board" discharge to do the rest, creates the "lazy" or "forgetful" owner who opens his or her case many months later only to find the batteries are dead and will not charge. This forum is full of those stories. Take care of your Batteries!!!
The first thing every new DJI owner should do when receiving their Drone is throw the included charger in the trash and get a good one.
