I need some clarification flying near areas like this, regarding the marine reserve. I’m aware there is no flying below 1000AGL and unless I wait forever and get a waiver there’s no flying over 400AGL(which is unlikely and pointless being that close to a class C, and no point being 1000ft up). What I cannot seem to find no matter what reddit thread or what google search I do nothing states what the limitations are horizontally, and where that boundary starts and stops. I mean is it the water line, the end of the beach, 1 mile inland, 5 miles inland? And the reason I’m confused is because I know AirMaps is pretty accurate for the most part when it comes to these things as I’ve flown in the Sierra Nevada’s close to wilderness areas but never in them and AirMaps lines up perfectly with the topography maps in my area that outline wilderness areas so those are pretty cut and dry on where to fly and where to not fly. Just here the red no fly zone doesn’t make it to land in some spots and then in others it covers land...

TIA

I see your point. I would assume the boundary of the preserve to be the high tide line all around the shoreline in this area. May just have been too complicated a shape to accurately put on the map.

Its to the high tide line, but then you also have an airport within 5 miles.

I should have looked at the sectional charts ?‍♂️ idk why I didn’t think of that being a 107 holder.

I was just using that spot as an example, I have no intention of flying near class C airspace. It’s just the majority of the California central coast has some sort of preserve by it.

Going by the chart, high tide marks the most eastward boundry of the preserve... so as an example would it be safe to fly say on the east side of highway 1 @ Notleys Landing, as long as there’s no other local restrictions in that area?

There are three separate protected areas parallel to the highway. See that blue polygon with blue dots on either side of PCH (1)? It’s a conservation area on both the east and west sides of the highway extending down to the coastline, forming the east boundary of the sea otter refuge, then on the west side of that is the Federal Marine Reserve.

Looks like there are roads leading into the hills east of Notleys Landing and to some redwood forested areas, they may be ok to try- that would make for some cool drone footage!
