I used to use AirMap, which had a user-friendly interface, making it easy to pre-determine NFZs. Looks like the FAA B4UFly apps are the current option. I have tried AirSpacePortal, which has what appears to be a somewhat non intuitive interface. It shows some red dotted lines with what appears to be Z-shaped lightning icons. The dotted lines appear open ended, and there is no Map Key.

AirMap indicated NFZs with a Red Overlay. Did not require a flight plan, login or anything. Just indicated where Rec Drones could fly & where not.

Is there a current equivalent to AirMap that is part of the B4UFly system, with a straightforward interface that indicates un restricted & NFZs?
(for Mac & iOS)

Thanks!

Check out Air Control & Air Aware. They are part of the Aloft group.
Thanks for the Rec. I just got Air Control. I'm guessing that if the area I plan to fly does NOT have a color overlay, that it is Open Airspace -legal to fly if not above people, private homes etc. But I'm wondering is Air Control detects local/town ordinances? Or are there additional info/alerts that need to be enabled? Thanks

Yep, if you are unsure, just click on the open (non-color) areas and when you attempt to gain LAANC, you will be told none is needed for uncontrolled airspace. Air Control does not detect local/town ordinances.

HI, brand new here. I've been researching the maps and restrictions, and found some generic color coded keys. However, all the maps I load have hundreds of small localized yellow hexagons that don't seem to correlate to any restricted areas. Can anyone tel me what these are? I have done dozens of searches, but only get the generic yellow equals cautions and list things like schools and stadiums, but these are all over residential areas. Thanks for any help, as I don't want to buy a drone I can't legally fly

I can't answer your question specifically but in the past, I remember seeing all those areas highlighted and I believe they are points of interest just so you know where you are flying in case you want to be cautious. Before I learned to ignore them, I thought every one of those places had something to do with flying your drone re: rules and regulations but they don't. This is what I recall and since the apps I use these don't show this or it's subtle or it's turned off, doesn't bother me anymore. But yes I remember the "clutter." As I becomes to understand the laws that government drone flights, this became less important to me.

thanks for the reply, they are all around me, and some seem to make sense because they overlap something like a school, but most just cover residential and regular streets/ business areas

Although they’re both good apps, Air Control’s maps show topography. Air Aware does not so it is harder to do future planning if your flight area is near hills and you can’t see them on the map to pinpoint your position. I do use both to double check if they are in line with each other as back up.

What map are you looking at? Can you post a screen shot of what you're seeing.

So, you're using Airspacelink/Airhub.

The orange hexagons are "Ground Insight" markers. Click the "Layers" button at the bottom left corner of the map area. Then open the "Airhub Ground Insights." Under the Community heading you'll see a list of items that can be switched on or off. They're for information and don't indicate airspace types or regulations.
