Nothing seems to connect: mobile device to controller - controller to MA2 - DJI Fly to anything - except controller does move the aircraft gimbals.

I don 't even know if I'm "activated" - did that occur when I purchased Care Refresh online and gave them the aircraft serial number? It sure hasn't appeared on any of my startup attempts. The best I've done so far is gotten a message in a bright red box that says, "RC not connected to mo..." I have no idea what "mo..." refers to.

Finally, a short while ago I got a message that software updates are needed. Great - except that it seems to require a wifi connection to update software. My internet connection is 5G cell data service - no wifi here. DJI Fly seems to not allow me to to select other than a wifi connection - the option seems to be there but grayed out and inoperable. Suggestions?

You’re going to need to get a decent internet connection to ensure a reliable FW update. Also, get used to this if the other DJI drones are anything to go by, you’re going to see quite a few FW updates over the coming year.

Be sure your using the right app to fly with. something does not sound right.

uh - I think I have a decent internet connect. Even at 4G it's usually fast enough. I travel a lot most of the year - spend a lot of time in out-of-the-way places - -places where my cell data connection is more often available and faster than local wifi if available.

This problem is either: I'm missing a setting somewhere in DJI Fly, or DJI Fly needs to allow non-wifi connections as it's user interface provides for.

I'm using DJI Fly. I update DJI Fly fine over my data circuit - no problems, nothing unusual because it is just another file download as far as my systems are concerned. It is DJI Fly that is managing the FW updates to controller, aircraft, and I imagine, batteries. It is DJI Fly that seems to require wifi. I see on my screen exactly what is shown in first image of "Aircraft not pairing with smartphone" thread.

"Are you able to use your cell phone as a WiFi "hotspot"? Sometimes I'm dumb - I do have a spare cellphone line and phone - i can use them to set up a hotspot and connect my mobile device that way. Thanks.

Yes, I'm using the cable that was already in the drone. Intersting the way that works - haven't seen that before.
