Hi,

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, please let me know if there is a dedicated forum for questions but I cannot solve this and at my wits end!

I have an Avata 2 drone with the FPV 3 remote controller. I use to have a Neo with the N3 goggles and the RC-N3 remote controller, but I upgraded to the Avata. I bought the FPV 3 controller for manual mode, which works fine, but for the stick mode (modes 1,2, and 3 on page 11 of the manual) I'm told I need to use the goggles to change the mode.

I want to use mode 1 as my muscle memory is expecting the right stick to move the drone forwards and backwards rather than up and down, but when I find the option in the goggles menu the modes are all grey and locked to mode 2. Is there something I'm missing, as this seems to be an elementary thing to change? Does the drone need to be in a specific mode? All accessories are activated and paired, visible in the DJI Fly app etc and firmware up to date.

Thanks in advance

Rob

You need the goggles, are you sure that the Drone is in the correct Profile? Your profile is in the settings menu of the goggles. make sure it is set to the drone you are using at the time. also in controller the gain and expo window find the M mode Attitude limit and either confirm the warning OR line up the dots..
NOW
Go back to >settings>Control>remote controller...You should now find the option to change your Modes. otherwise I dont think the options show.

This was exactly it. I don't know why the attitude limit was locking it out, but unchecking the option allowed selecting the different modes. Thank you so much!

Most Drones actually have 3 flight modes ANGLE, HORIZON, ACRO (manual). In order to fly in horizon or acro the drone must be able to "pitch" beyond its "Moron" setting. Checking the "M attitude" is what changes those numbers for DJI Drones and thus allows the Drone to Fly without always trying to stay level or going into fail-safe if you exceed the angle.
A drones "moron" setting tells the Drone at what angle to shut-off the motors. its the reason you can shut the drone off by simply turning it sideways while hand-landing.

Completely unrelated again, discussion was about stick modes.

You cannot change stick modes without first changing the above setting so I don't think the explanation was unrelated at all really, Sorry if it was BUT, The OP may run across the same problem with a different brand of Drone. Knowing why and how this is accomplished by Drones makes one a wiser pilot I.M.O. thats all im sayin.
The OP asked why they were locking him out.... the reason was given. :)
