Sounds like that DVR isn't going to work for you. Maybe one of the other video editors could work. I'm not that familiar with others but I used the free version of Filmora video editor once and it looked good.
What I tend to do is when I'm flying is to start/stop the recording at roughly the bits I want to capture - rather than have it recording the entire flight (not ideal I know as if you can forget to hit record sometimes). Then when I'm loading in the videos to DVR it's faster. I also shoot in 1080p for the reason it seems (for me and my laptop) to be quicker in DVR. Though ideally I'd like to not have to do those things at all - but wasn't able to find a work around, using DVR anyways :-(
