Cold weather flying

Yes, thought something was wrong with my props at first, but then determined that they are just more loud in the cold. I have the MP Platinum.

The air is more dense hence the louder prop noise. -21f (-29c) this morning and flight times remain the same taking off from my back deck 23 minutes landing with 28% remaining.

I flew a few miles today at -18F (-28C). No issues at all, especially because I was inside my house in front of a picture window! I think the performance at such temps, with the air so dense, is really outstanding.

Flew yesterday at 9F and mavic had some trouble with its battery temps. Started out at 24.8 and ended with it at 19 I was flying in sport mode.

The only issue that I have with flying in the cold are my fingers get numb

Same here, that’s my only problem

I have flown in 5°F. Knowing the Inspire and Matrice have heated batteries, I do not want to risk power loss or damaging the battery, so I only fly to no more than 20%.

I flew today at -28 C. My coldest flight yet. I got a Gimbal Motor Overload warning. And it took a long time to connect as well. Other than that...no problem.

Is there anyway to insulate the battery when flying to prevent this?

Tape a hand warmer to it.

Tonight flew from in the house, out the window, still could go a good way out. Try to fly daily to check on some big bucks around the place.

As long as your battery is warm (room temp) at take off it will stay warm from discharge during flight. I flew 3 batteries last night in the -21f (-29.4c) Each battery was room inside temp, mavic stayed outside and swapped bats on the deck. So I see NO Need for any aftermarket heating what so ever on the battery. Did get a pretty decent shot of the supermoon.

Here are some very cool, very cold weather shots that I really like. In one shot, my buddy drove his truck while I flew from the passenger seat. At -10 C I flew for 20.5 minutes and landed with 28% battery left.

Does keeps my the clear gimbal cover help keep the battery warm?

I’m talking about during flight, my battery temps drop below 18 C only when it’s 9F or below flying in sport mode.
