I have here a small piece of footage I took yesterday.
Because I had to take some site pictures, my settings were "normal"
Just to check... I opened the footage (just did a manual orbit) in FCPX and the color channels.
And that was funny.
This is the standard picture without any change. One the Luma waveform (left), you see that ALL levels are just too high
The second picture, I did a standard Color Correction in FCPX Color Board. As you can see, the Luma waveform is nicely between 0 and 100. The colours are much more bright and nice. Please note that the red laterite is the dominant color here. But it is just that color red.
The third picture is the "normal" picture but now with Color Finale where I just reduced the global low and brought all levels down a little. So basically the same as with Color Board. Still there difference is remarkable.
The fourth picture are the same settings from the third just added a little more mid tones to bring it more alive
Although I reduce the red a little in the drop shadow
The last are the Color Finale settings from picture 4.
Reduced the global exposure a little in the low section and lifted in the higher region.
Reduced the red in the lower tones.
This whole proces took less then 5 minutes. No D-Log (although the process would be more controllable) and no (expensive) LUT's. Just understanding how it works
Hope this is useful
