On my MacBook Pro every memory card I have installed from several cameras and drones the pictures upload automatically in the Photos app. With my recently acquired Air 3 when I install the memory card the Photos app says "No Photos". The only way I download the pictures is by selecting import and going to the finder and downloading from there. I guess it works okay but why does it not work like every other memory card from other devices. I have tried it on two MacBooks and and iPad with no luck. But if I go to my window computer the pictures pop up and are ready to download. Very frustrating.

Amazing that I could be the only one that has run across this problem. I guess I should never have bought a pre owned drone. I do appreciate all the views.

I am assuming that you take your SD card, insert it into the card reader. My Mac Book Pro only has USB-C ports. My card reader also has USB-C-plug. I plug my card reader with th SD card into the Mac Book Pro USB-C port and the Icon appears on the screen. Clicking on the icon will reveal the files. That's the way I have always had it.
I am about to embark on a very important Zimbabwe safari in 3 weeks and I am, as usual, depending on this procedure. My Mac Book Pro does not have a card reader slot nor does my iMAC. I never have used photo app.

What app do you use on your MacBook Pro. I have always used the Photo's app and it has always worked well. In 4 weeks we are departing on a trip to Moab Utah. Not as exciting as your trip but still looking forward to it. I appreciate the response.

Why the memory card isn't recognized

The problem stems from the way Macs handle SD cards and storage volumes. The drone's SD card is factory-formatted with a file system that, while compatible with macOS, isn't always recognized by Apple's Photos app for automatic import.

When you insert the card, your Mac's Finder recognizes it and displays it as an external drive. However, the Photos app doesn't see it as a traditional "photo source," like a standard camera card. Therefore, you must manually import it via the Finder.

Community-suggested solutions

Here are the most frequently mentioned solutions to resolve this issue, or at least work around it:

Reset the SD card format: This is the most common solution. By reformatting the SD card directly from your Mac, the file system is rewritten in a way that can make the card compatible with automatic import into the Photos app. However, this will erase all data on the card, so it's essential to back up your files first. You can use Disk Utility on your Mac to format the card to APFS or ExFAT.

Use a different transfer method: Another option is to transfer files directly via the drone's USB-C cable. By connecting the drone to your Mac, the drone is recognized as an external hard drive, allowing you to copy files directly. This is often faster than removing the SD card.

Use a different card reader: Some users have reported that the issue can be resolved by using an external USB-C card reader rather than their MacBook's built-in SD card reader.

Update macOS and the Photos app: Ensuring your operating system and all applications are up to date can sometimes resolve minor bugs.

No issue on Linux or WIndows, Mac Os is not always the best, you have to accept it !

With a couple exceptions that is an excellent response and I appreciate it. I guess I do not spend enough time on this forum to know what Deepek or Gemini is but I did search this forum for hours and not once did a find a response as good as the one you just sent. I appreciate your time and sincerely hope it was not to much of a bother for you.
