Connect to Controller via wifi (like the Spark)?

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect your smartphone to the RC via wifi as you can do with the Spark? I know you cannot do that with the Mavic Air but was wonder if it's possible with the Mini. Many report a USB connection is better but the wifi connection can be a bit quicker and less fumbling to get setup and the bird in the air.

It appears DJI has abandoned that idea as well as gesture control.

I certainly hope not. I use Gesture on my Air and Spark all of the time. No time for futzing around on a golf course for a quick selfie or Follow Me on a hole. Certainly not pulling out an RC, binding, etc. Any portable/travel drone had better be controllable by the phone alone as an option.

I agree, as much as I love my mini over the Mavic Air I do miss the convenience of gesture or just mobile control while out Mountain biking
