I was at a friends house Who is on the edge of class D airspace. Obviously it is a restricted zone, so I went on Kittyhawk, requested authorization and received it with an authorization number. However much as I tried I could not figure out how to unlock the M2. I got to a point where there was a screen that said “put information” but there was no way to enter the information or paste it from the code that I copied from my text message. So I left extremely frustrated and still in a quandary.
Can anybody please tell me what the friggin procedure is to unlock the drone with an authorization code???

P. S.… At the same issue with my mini.

You misunderstand. The authorization you get from Kittyhawk or AirMap is to be legal with the US government.

DJI also requires you to get authorization from DJI. DJI doesn't care if you have authorization from the government or not. The authorization code they want is from your DJI authorization.

Even if you do this it only works about 50% of the time.

Thanks for the link. I find it less than amusing that when the drones failed to launch it did not take me to a form where I could request unlocking. That would have been too easy to program, no? I could not find any form anywhere in either Go4 or Fly. More than frustrating... Maddening. I suppose I should be glad I'm working through this bug now as opposed to in a month when I intend to take and hopefully have passed my Part 107.

Edit: I wonder if Litchi would have locked me out the same way with no way to unlock???

Usually lock out is at the aircraft level especially for something permanent like a class D zone

Yeah... I wrote to Litchi and they said the same thing.

I had the same issue in NZ. Go on to the DJI website and find the area where you apply for an unlocking license. Send them your info including drone serial number, etc,. as asked, plus a copy of your local flight approval and details of when you want to fly. If it is a repeat mission, ask for an extended licence to cover the period. After several emails (persevere!) I got what I needed. But it is a pain. DJI should not be involved in local flight ops. Patience ...... When you have the licence, it should activate in your drone’s settings (be online). ??

Was that a custom unlock though? Doing a self unlock usually doesn’t require the FAA authorization to get DJI authorization. To be clear you still NEED the FAA authorization to fly legally just not to get DJI authorization for a self unlock I thought.

Remember that I am in NZ. The FAA may be different. My DJI unlock was a customised one, for my specific area. My flight log approval was ATC. Just a pain having to deal with DJI, too.

Oh right right right... I usually look for that kind of stuff. I actually thought when you said “NF” you meant “NFZ” the first time I read it, my mistake.
