They may look like they are intended to be turned/removed, no reason to do it, never tried, why potentially break my hobby?

Think all they are dust covers, for motors

What if I want to do something groundbreaking like dismantling and cleaning the motor, or have I shocked too many now. The mounting screws are under this cover.

Search the Mods forum, you'll need pliers, and the caps are easy to break in the process.

Duct tape over the ridges on the covers. Vice grips, not too tight. Pull straight up. They will pull off with a little bit of force.
