How many of you disable VPS (Vision Positioning System) when low flying over water?

I ask this because when doing some research on other forums etc, it seems like not many people know what it is, and has been the cause for some drones to drop into the water.

Over water, I just fly higher so that the VPS detection altitude and never disable VPS

there is no way to disable VPS short of putting tape over the sensors

This is one of a number of deficiencies in DJI Fly
In DJI Go4 you can turn VPS on and off in the navigation settings\ advanced settings, "enable downward vision positioning"

I guess its just one of those never ending discussions of DJI Fly app vs DJI Go app!

Unless you intend to skim over water you won’t have an issue. I would not fly less than 40ft over water.

You here 10 feet, 25 feet, 40 feet, I fly 10 feet off the water all the time (ocean and lakes) and never have a problem. Altitude and all other readings all normal.
I've never turned anything off. Mavic Air.

VPS only has to fail once

People literally do this. I would. Why chance it

So the tape disables it? Does the tape force the computer to think there is nothing that could interfere. Im curious because I plan on flying a lot over the ocean this summer.

Yup. It covers it so it can’t sense anything. Too many reports of drones forcing a land on water caused people to start doing this on several DJI models. Why even risk it when something basic like electrical tape will do. Oh, make sure the tape is opaque and not clear tape.

Thats true I guess but that doesn't mean its going down when you have VLOS and in control. I seen this on the site about flying over water,
"When you disable the VPS of your aircraft and the distance between water surface and drone is smaller than 2 meters, you should fly the drone with a low speed in your FOV (field of view). Also, the height needs to be adjusted frequently since the aircraft could possibly drift downwards. Be aware that the minimum height has to be above 1 meter when flying over water."
