When I first saw this technology demonstrated in China I thought that it would not be long before it became available to the rest of the world. Today I picked up a YouTube video demonstrating the device with a link to a DJI shop in Madrid so I went ahead and purchased it for my Mini 4 Pro along with the necessary adapter. I have always been interested in anything that can improve the connection between the remote and the drone as I often fly from my garden which has lots of trees around it. I am sure that it will eventually replace OcuSync in DJI drones in the near future. For anyone interested I have included a link to the Spanish YouTube video which has English subtitles.

That's great, let us know what you find. Would need to know more about the sim-card details and the setup, etc.

I expect delivery on the 11th July so allowing a few days for testing I should know if it works ok connected to my Mini 4 Pro.

Couldn't understand the video but get the idea. Is it only available for the mini 4 at this time? and the cost? Having cell connection would solve the problem of losing contact behind objects..and fewer lost drones.

Subtitles are available in English at the bottom of the video "CC". Yes cell connection would solve a lot of communication problems but at what cost (SIM card fee etc)? I have yet to find out when the adapter arrives next week!

Looking forward to your review.

In the UK it is nothing like as simple as getting any old SIM card and popping it in the device.
Trying to do that is apparently illegal and doesn't work according to early reviews. We need a license from OFCOM.

Sean over at Geeksvana explains why...

Not only that but apparently it doesn't even work that well.

That's 'cause he was using any old SIM card, and not one specifically issued by the provider for aerial coms. The reason he has problems is because his standard SIM, which can only ever register with one tower concurrently on the ground can suddenly do so with several at once as soon as the signal is airborne. And that causes big problems, and floods multiple towers with gigabytes of data that seriously congests other traffic, and could lead to all sorts of problems authorities and providers might consider 'serious'. Of course we don't know yet if this is the same in EU but it seems logical that the same problems might exist and equivalent licenses / special SIM cards might be required.

I have to say Occusync 4 is so ridiculously good in the UK (even with its horribly hampered pathetic power transmission levels) that this seems like A LOT of expensive hoops to run through to get a bit of extended signal coverage, most of which we can't use anyway without falling foul of existing VLOS laws. Can't drop it behind any trees, can't fly it out of sight etc etc. Whilst this sort of tech might eventually facilitate a change in these laws (pffff IMO), until they actually arrive it is as good as useless to people trying to be flying lawfully, and provides the widest possible data trail and live signal detection area / open flags to authorities for those who try and use it illegally ! So really not many situations I can think of in which it's a winner I'd say. Like Sean above I am slightly mystified why this has been released apparently targeted at lower end consumer drones initially.
