Having had my Mini 4 Pro returned to me last week with a brand new RC 2 controller I was able to continue testing the 4G dongle. I took off from my garden and flew over a hill losing contact with the O4 signal. Immediately the 4G dongle took over and I didn’t notice any delay in transmission/loss of FPV. As it was a very rural area in which I was flying 4G contact was weak at times and lost on two occasions resulting in the Mini 4 activating the RTH sequence. However when 4G was acquired again control of the drone was re-established immediately. At the end of the flight activating RTH the Mini 4 returned to my garden and landed as normal. I still have more testing to do but overall I am pleased with the 4G dongle and it does work.

I have two drones the mini 4 pro and the air 3 I bought another dongle 2 to have the 2 drones with the same capacity currently however I have only managed to get one dongle to work.
do you know if Dji allows you to use only one dongle per account
Thanks

I'm sorry that I can't really help as I only have one dongle for my Mini 4. I would have thought that if you use the same sim card for both drones then there should be no problem!?

I think here my be the good place to add this piece of information: the mini4 dongle adapter sold by aliexpress is 7g instead of the 21g of DJI's (without the dongle) and easier to use. I guess it offers less protection to the dongle in case of crash, but well, if you manage to damage the dongle that way then the rest of the drone is probably good for a direct trip to the bin.
Also, 4g reception varies a lot, I'm in an area with a lot of 4g cell towers and the dongle reception is very low to inexistant, while when taking off 50km away it is full bars and a pleasure to use.

Apologies for my late reply but Christmas time is busy!
I purchased the DJI Cellular Dongle 2 because an essential mounting kit is available for attaching the dongle securely to the Mini 4 Pro. This adapter is an extra €20 but it is sculptured to fit the Mini Pro 4 exactly. It is strapped securely to the drone along with the correct size USB C cable to connect it to the port on the drone. Also you have to purchase the DJI Enhanced Transmission service (first year is free but after that a yearly fee is payable) before you can fly with the dongle.
If you purchase the dongle from AliExpress I am not sure that you will be able to attach it to the drone properly or be able to apply for the Enhanced Transmission service etc.

Sorry if I was not clear, I have used the word "adapter" instead of "attachment". I already own a Mini4P, the dongle2, the official dji attachment and the aliexpress attachment. I hijacked your thread simply because I wanted to share the fact that the aliexpress attachment, IMO, is better than the dji one. Lighter, no strap, better airflow, better fit. And cheaper too. This info may be interesting for some people.

Do you have a link to the AliExpress attachment? Thanks.

Here you go : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007523382322.html
Also, I have just ordered this 5cm 90°-90° cable as I find that the straight cable provided by dji may not be the most suitable. I may be wrong, will tell you when I receive it.
Thanks. The DJI official adapter is much neater than the AliExpress (DJI) one. However as you point out it is much heavier so I may try the Ali Express (DJI) version. The photo shows it on a Mini 3 but you have it for your Mini 4? The cable on my adapter is very neat and fits exactly from the dongle to the drone.

Well, it’s your opinion based on pictures vs mine based on me owning and using both attachments:).

To answer your question, yes, as said above I have it fitted on my mini 4 pro, and the photos from the AE seller show it on a mini 4 pro too. What I really like is that the new attachment is very slim, so I can pack the drone without removing the dongle. The DJI attachment with the strap must be removed each time I pack the drone.

The original usb cable from DJI is, as you know, straight, so it tends to make a loop on the back of the drone don’t your think ? I will experience with the 90° cable to see if I can have something more streamlined.

The cable on my dongle is perfectly curved to fit into the port on the drone. It is very neat but I do notice the extra weight of the dongle when the Mini 4 Pro takes off. So am interested in trying the adapter from AliExpress.

As promised, here's a quick report on the 90° USB cable. It's not 100% perfect, but at least it reduces the large loop at the back of the drone. So, a negligible improvement compared to the significant upgrade of switching from the original attachment to the AliExpress one. Here are some pictures comparing with the original cable.original.jpgoriginal side.jpgside.jpgback.jpg

Thanks for the photos and for keeping me updated. I have gone ahead and ordered the adapter from AliExpress as I am interested to see the difference between this one and the one that I have. As you point out the AE one seems to be much lighter which will be of benefit. I will use the cable from my adapter which should fit ok. The new adapter from AE should have been here by now but has been delayed due to Christmas I suppose.

The adapter from AE has just arrived. I’ve fitted it and tested it for a few minutes from my garden and it works ok. It was a bit difficult to attach the 4G module to it as there are no instructions however your photos helped. The antenna cables seem to obstruct the landing light a little and the clips that attach it to the drone battery did concern me a little but they held ok during the in the test flight. The original USB C cable fits really well and is very neat. I like the two long antenna and will be interested to see if the 4G signal improves in some of the dead areas around where I fly. I also note as it is attached to the battery it has to be remove each time the battery is change but this is a very minor detail. Thanks again for all your help.
