we usually have a very strong 4g and 5g coverage i was surprised to always see my signal medium at best

Any idea why am never able to pick excellent signal just like my phone when flying??...

My only guess would be your cell phone and you drone has a different way of interpreting how strong the signal is. Long time ago we had a local cellphone carrier their phones showed 10 bars everywhere you went.

Where were you flying from? Were you inside a structure? What control device were you using? Did you check what the signal strength was like on your actual mobile phone?

Both signals (RC and cell) seem to be showing attenuation. The messages concerning the RC TX/RX clearly suggested something physical blocking transmission. Both the drone control signal and the mobile phone signal use similar radio frequencies to transmit data.

Regarding 4G signal and physical attenuation: I've just been checking out my own mobile in a good coverage area, outside the building I'm in: full strength. Inside the building: 4G is variable between one third and three quarters. The structure is significantly affecting the signal quality.

Ya but it was glitchy flight transmission......

Yes I was simply flying from my balcony, apparently the drone was flying in the open air in downtown approx 18th floor high and drone 4g signal was weak/medium so I had to return to home manually to avoid surprises...

On my phone of course 4g signal was top notch 👌

I was controlling the drone via 4g so I don't need to have direct line of sight between the phone/controller and drone,

You still need a cell tower with unblocked signal. 18 story tall buildings will block cell tower signals, depending upon where the cell towers are.

we always get excellent signal in those spots, even mid sea the signal is not great, anyways i might do a test tomorrow and see...

Possibly coz am in CE mode country then 4g signal is also limited somehow by the firmware ??

Are you using a sim designed for aerial usage. Here in the uk to get the best reception you need the right sim otherwise the tower the drone will select is not optimum and can often be worse than just using the o4 connection.

thats news to me ! whats a sim designed for aerial usage ?! i dont think if i ask my carrier he will know that, i only use the micro sim thats all, ISPs in the UK have sims for drones ?!? 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨

Yep. Here’s an example - Drone SIM

We also have to have a special licence issued by ofcomm to use the dongle.
