Hi, I am new here, I got Mavic 4 Pro and recently shot in D Log M. I also have Davinci Resolve Studio and wondering how do you guys edit/colorgrade your footage from Mavic 3 / Mavic 4 Pro? I am just starting and watched few videos on YT. So currently I have around 4 nodes in Davinci, first node transforms from DJI D Log into Davinci Intermediate, last one transforms from Davinci Intermediate into Rec709 and in the middle I have my custom nodes for details, contrast, small adjustments for highlights and shadows. (I also set noise reduction and sharpness to -1 both in drone camera settings - someone recommended this to preserve more information for post editing). Could you please recommend a better workflow or tips&tricks for better editing? Currently my footage looks oversaturated and shadows/highlights are not that good as on other great drone videos. Also I am shooting everything and in random way. What I learned is that I should already know how I would deal with the fotage in post editing at the moment of flying the drone. because it is really hard to cut clips and edit the footage with different angles, scenes, etc. I will atach example footage for you in the thread once I upload it. Please recommend any great resource for editing/shooting drone footage. Thank you!

First of all, D Log M shouldn’t be confused with D Log.

D Log M is just a flat rec 709 color palette that doesn’t require colorspace transforms. It’s not a true log profile. If you are using a D Log colorspace transform on D Log M footage I bet you are having a heck of a time.

Secondly, assuming you are working with actual D log footage, use Davinci Resolve color management to stream line this process. You turn on color management in the project settings and then you mark your D log footage in the Media Pool by right clicking>input colorspace>DJI>D log.

This will do the input and output colorspace transforms for you automatically so you save yourself from having to do those colorspace transforms. Then just edit like you would if it wasn’t log. Don’t overthink this but you can look up videos on color Managment in Resolve if you want
