Looks like an interesting bit of kit, pricey, but it is a separate set of propellers as well. Just curious if anybody has sprung for a set yet? If so, how did they work for you?

About $50 on eBay from China (MSRP $39) so not terribly bad. Might get a set later since this early seems to be mostly open box or demo units. May as well since they come with propellers inside them.

They seem to be a bit more than that in price now, ranging from $48 on Aliexpress to $50-60 on eBay, after shipping tacked on from China. I think everything with a prefix: DJI, has jumped up 20%. Most of the Google derived sources are actually more expensive when you get to the actual site.

Ok here's a new eBay listing, if I were buying today, I would get this and maybe I should because it does seems like prices are starting to rise again:

4x DJI Mini 5 Pro Quick Release 360° Propeller Guard with Integrated Propellers

Aliexpress has a coupon for $4 off today, so it comes to just above $48 with taxes, should you want to shave a few bucks off. Quicker delivery as well.

Well they arrived today, 9 days delivery from AliExpress, with Xmas and new years in the spread. They do attach quite easily. The weight bumps up to 292 grams. I will give a small evaluation on flying with them, when it stops blowing and snowing.

Small update. I just wanted to see how loud they are. They do not sound like a Neo, screaming like a wounded harpy, kind of a deep note, not loud at all. On big pitfall, it will not let me fly it at my altitude, 7,100' (2165m). So even if it stops blowing and dumping snow, it will not allow a take off up here. I guess I'll save it for when I motor down the mountain next week.

What sort of an error is it throwing, regarding the altitude?

Mine got lost in shipment; seller has dispatched another set. Maybe I end up with two?

In the meantime, a good review:

It simply states altitude to high cannot take off and it shuts down. Usual warning banner. Got out my magnifying glass and looked in the manual and it won't let you take off over 2000m fly further than 500m or higher than 120m AGL. That was not apparent in the advert media

Thanks for sharing the undisclosed limitations in the manual.
The distance limitation makes no sense at all, but the primary use would be indoor flying, where such limitations would not have any impact, unless at over 2000m above sea level and indoors, in which case it again makes no sense to me.

My seller did the same thing. Claims original is stuck somewhere, so they have reshipped another. We must have bought from the same seller!

The limits they place are based on reduced battery. They want you to stay within a short range so you can return to home. The height is stability related. I dont recall any past limits with guards but I really dont use them other than one set I had with a mini 2 to fly indoors. I wonder if this set will still pull you into the wall if you get too close.

The bigger still unanswered question is whether they can be used with Plus batteries. According to one YT commenter on the video above, on the Mini 4 Pro, using DJI prop guards prevented one from using Plus batteries.

Distance limits based upon reduced flight time makes no sense to me, as RTH covers that. RTH would simply trigger earlier. Why would there be an altitude limit of under 2000m ASL when the Plus batteries are just as heavy as these prop guards?

Considering all I have clipped on the drones that is much heavier, seems a bit overprotective. I am curious how it detects them, no mention till you spin the props. So perhaps they run at a different RPM (they are shorter) and then it gives the Nanny banner.

Probably a combination of air density at that altitude, reduced propeller performance due the cage and weight.
The air density above 2000m ASL would equally affect a Plus battery weighing just as much, but the cage and prop change obviously must have something to do with it.
